India T20 World Cup odds: Men In Blue 5/4 to rule the world

Only four of the original 20 teams contesting the 2024 T20 World Cup can still lift the trophy and India are the favourites to come out on top.

Rohit Sharma's squad have won all six of their completed matches in the tournament (one group game was abandoned) and face England in their semi-final on Thursday.

Underdogs Afghanistan take on South Africa in the first semi-final, with the winners of each game going through to the final in Barbados on Saturday.

T20 World Cup

India were the pre-tournament favourites for the 2024 T20 World Cup and it's no surprise that their odds are much shorter now with some of their biggest rivals having been eliminated and few flaws in their performances to date.

The Men In Blue had a near-perfect record in their group, with three wins and a no-result in their scheduled final Group A game against Canada.

India opened the tournament with a convincing eight-wicket win over Ireland, who were skittled out for 96. They then achieved a huge victory over Pakistan despite being bowled out for 119 and using only 19 of their allocated overs.

The Indian bowlers made up for their batting struggles as Pakistan fell seven runs short of their target after some tight bowling, including a fantastic spell of 3-14 in four overs from Jasprit Bumrah.

Co-hosts the United States were then dispatched by seven wickets as India cruised into the Super 8 stage.

In the second round, they won three out of three matches, beating Afghanistan by 47 runs, Bangladesh by 50 runs and knocking out Australia with another victory when batting first, this time winning by 24 runs.

Kohli form still a concern

While India's overall results have been excellent, not everything has gone entirely smoothly and their superstar batter Virat Kohli has been having a rare poor run.

Kohli has scored four or fewer runs in four of his six appearances at the tournament. After a tough group stage which saw him score one against Ireland, four against Pakistan and a duck against the United States, hard work in the nets seemed to have paid off as Kohli scored 24 against Afghanistan and 37 against Bangladesh in the Super 8s.

However, he picked up his second duck of the tournament last time out against Australia so approaches the last four with questions over his form.

Weather forecast a worry for semi-final

India's semi-final against England should be a mouth-watering match-up between two talented teams but the rainy weather forecast for Guyana on Thursday does not bode well for fans.

Sharma's side would benefit if the match was rained off, as they would progress to the final in the event of a washout due to winning their group at the previous stage, while England were runners-up to South Africa.

If the game does go ahead, India have a chance to exact revenge for their 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final defeat to England.

England dominated that game, winning by 10 wickets on their way to winning the trophy in Australia.

India have not won this tournament since it was first held in 2007 but are the 5/4 favourites to get it right this time.
