One of Britain's most exciting fighters and best super-middleweights sits down with bet365's Alex Olds to discuss his upcoming fight with Zak Chelli and much more.
AO: How’s camp been? How are you feeling?
GB: Good. Camp’s gone very well. I’ve had great sparring…everything is going well.
AO: How tough a test do you think Zak will pose for you?
GB: It will be a good test. He’s had tough fights, he was actually meant to box for this title a while back.
This is his opportunity. He’s definitely going to go for it…. But Zak, I’m ready.
AO: Zak Chelli’s dad has been quite vocal before the fight, saying that you are just a warm up fight and that you’re not on his level…. What do you make of his comments?
GB: His dad loves talking.
I think Zak knows that this will be his hardest fight. He’s not boxed anyone who’s on my level.
I know what he’s going to bring…we trained alongside one another in the amateurs and I’ve sparred with him since we both turned professional. We know each other quite well.
His dad is just a talker and trying to build the fight, I guess.
AO: If you can get past Chelli, are you looking for a British title shot?
GB: 100%. This has been made an eliminator for the British title - that is my next goal.
AO: Who do you think wins between Mark Heffron and Lennox Clarke - who would you rather face?
GB: I think Lennox Clarke wins it. I think he beats Mark Heffron…Tough fight, but Clarke wins.
He’s had lots of injuries, which is why he hasn’t boxed in a while. But if he wins, I would love to face him and I know I can beat him.
AO: There’s a thriving scene domestically at both super-middleweight and light-heavyweight…We are also now set for the pro debut of Ben Whittaker - is that a fight you’d like one day? How do you think he’ll get on in the pros?
GB: I’d love that fight. I just don’t know what weight he will be competing at just yet….
If he boxes at super-middleweight, we’ll see… They’re gonna push him very quickly and I think he’ll be great in the pros.
If we cross paths, then for sure… let’s get it on.
AO: In your opinion….apart from yourself….who is the best super-middleweight in Britain at the moment?
GB: I’d have to say John Ryder. With his experience, latest victory (vs Daniel Jacobs) etc… you’d have to say him.
Special mention to Lerrone Richards, too.
AO: Staying in the super-middleweight division… Who do you think wins the third Canelo-GGG fight?
GB: Canelo.
I don’t think he stops him, he’ll beat him on points. Golovkin’s chin is great - Canelo will want to put on a show though and I think this will be very one-sided.
AO: What can we expect from Germaine Brown in the next 12 months?
GB: Titles. That’s the name of the game…
I’ll win this, then the British title. I want big domestic fights - I’ll fight any of these guys.
Anyone in the super-middleweight division who wants it, can come get it.
