After the Queen of Clay’s surprise exit at the semi-final stage from the 2024 Olympics, Iga Swiatek will be keen to bounce back at the US Open, where she bids for a sixth Grand Slam.
(Odds will display when the market is available)
Although clay is Swiatek’s strongest surface by far, winning a remarkable 97% of her last 33 matches at the French Open, her other Grand Slam came at Flushing Meadows, where she won the 2022 US Open, beating Jessica Pegula, Aryna Sabalenka and Ons Jabuer to take the title.
Sabalenka appears to be the biggest obstacle between Swiatek and a sixth Grand Slam, with the Belarusian looking to go one better after being beaten in last year’s US Open final.
Despite their surface preferences, Swiatek has little to fear should she meet Sabalenka in the final at Flushing Meadows. Although she lost in straight sets in Cincinnati last week, Swiatek has won three of her six meetings with Sabalenka on hard courts.
Although there isn’t much recent hard court form to go on, Swiatek does have a win to her name this season, taking the WTA 1000 event at Indian Wells back in March without dropping a set.
Sabalenka is a narrow favourite for the US Open, but if she falls short, Swiatek looks best placed to win a second US crown.
