Star reinsman Dylan Egerton-Green capped a night to remember when taking out the $50,000 Garrard’s Horse And Hound Easter Cup at Gloucester Park on Friday night.
Egerton-Green won the last three races of the night, moving to 768 career wins in the process, but it was the Easter Cup win with Ideal Agent that was the highlight.
The reinsman burst to the front 750m in to the 2902m event and it proved to be a winning move as he held off his rivals to bring home the bacon.
After coming off a 20-metre mark, Ideal Agent defeated Twobob Cracker by two lengths to complete the win. But it did not come without anxiety after a nervy start to the race.

The Code Breaker set to bounce back
“Ideal Agent hadn’t raced in a stand for a while and he tried to race the other horses at the start,” explained Egerton-Green. “I wasn’t worried, and I just tried to balance him.
“Then I thought that over the 2900m, the leader (Gee Smith) might have handed up and be happy to take the trail. And that’s what he did, and it all worked out good. Ideal Agent is a very good horse, and he went to the line strongly.”
Meanwhile Egerton-Green also completed a hugely satisfying win when Illawong Mustang got up at the death to edge out Blissfullabbey in the 2536m Garrard’s Online Pace.
Egerton-Green also prepares the five-year-old, who had not won in 20 races so the victory was extra special.
“Tonight, from the outside barrier I decided to go back and drive for luck,” Egerton-Green added. “And when they went a bit silly, I was quite confident Illawong Mustang would run a good race.”
