Sunday's Huntingdon Horse Racing Betting Tips and Odds

13:50 - Protektorat @ 11/8
14:25 - Go To War @ 7/4
15:00 - Muskoka @ 11/2

13:50 - Protektorat @ 11/8

Five runners are set to go to post for the £80,000 Grade 2 2m4f Peterborough Chase, the main event from Huntingdon on Sunday, and PROTEKTORAT, representing the significant Dan Skelton and Harry Skelton trainer and jockey combination, is upwards of 6lb clear on his four rivals on the book on these favourable terms.

Skelton registered his 100th success of the season through Mount Tempest at Sandown on Friday, and he is 12-70 (17%) with his runners over fences at Huntingdon, including when winning this race through Al Ferof in 2015.

His 2024 representative Protektorat achieved an encouraging Racing Post Rating (RPR) of 163 on his return to action when finishing sixth of 15 under the steadier of 12 stone in the November Gold Cup Premier Handicap Chase at Cheltenham on good ground.

He is entitled to benefit from that return to action, and the testing ground is going to be much more suitable on this occasion, over a trip which it could be argued is otherwise a tad sharp for him on this course.

The nine-year-old is 4-9 over this distance, 4-13 on soft ground and 6-26 under Harry Skelton. He also won over 2m over fences at right-handed Carlisle in October 2020, and at this time of year at Aintree in December 2021, so perhaps concerns about the sharpness of this course are overplayed.

A return to form from Ginny's Destiny, representing Paul Nicholls, back on his favoured soft ground is perhaps the biggest threat to the selection, although Djelo is another who could get competitive, if building on his Haldon Gold Cup reappearance second last month for an in-form Venetia Williams.

14:25 - Go To War @ 7/4

GO TO WAR is fancied to make a winning stable debut for Nicky Henderson, having left Fergal O'Brien's care, in Huntingdon's Class 3 six-runner 2m Handicap Hurdle.

The Soldier Of Fortune gelding only had to be pushed out to win on his debut in a Uttoxeter bumper in October 2022, so that is encouraging for his ability to go well on this seasonal reappearance.

The likeable six-year-old is 3-4 over the distance, 2-2 on soft ground, 2-4 racing right-handed and he has won at this time of year, so he can enter handicap company with confidence on this occasion from an exploitable mark of 123.

15:00 - Muskoka @ 11/2

Finally, Emma Lavelle's representative MUSKOKA has decent claims of a first career success on his second chasing start in Huntingdon's Class 4 11-runner extended 2m7f Handicap Chase.

Lavelle showcased her ability with handicap chasers through General Medrano's storming success at Newbury last weekend.

Muskoka stayed on into an encouraging third on his chasing debut at Kempton last month. He was actually dropped 1lb in the ratings despite the promise shown which is clearly a bonus now he is stepping up to a more suitable trip. The six-year-old son of Milan is certainly bred to thrive over this sort of trip over fences.
