How could Newcastle replace Alexander Isak?

Rumours linking Alexander Isak with a move away from St James' Park refuse to go away, but how could Newcastle replace a striker that has scored 54 goals in 86 Premier League matches?

Currently 1/4, Isak is favoured to stay with his current club as we head into next season but whilst links to Liverpool persist, Newcastle fans will not rest easy.

It's not just Merseyside where the interest is coming from either with Arsenal and Barcelona reportedly keen on signing the 25 year old.

We explore who Eddie Howe could bring in to replace Isak should he depart this summer.

Georges Mikautadze

Replacing a striker of the quality of Alexander Isak is not easy. It's not just his goals, Isak's all-round game is something to consider when touting a replacement but fortunately Geroges Mikautadze could fit the bill.

Mikautadze (24) is one year Isak's junior and has impressed in Ligue 1 this season after making the switch to Lyon last summer.

The Georgian forward netted 11 goals and added a further four assists in the French top-flight but his game does not revolve solely around goalscoring.

The 24-year-old has an incredible ability to get on the ball, receiving 8.42 progressive passes a game which puts in him the top four percent of strikers across Europe's big five leagues.

Mikautadze takes the ball into really dangers areas too, ranking higher than Isak for touches in the opposition penalty area and shot creating actions.

Lyon's relegation to Ligue 2 could also be something to consider as there is a distinct possibility that some players could be available for a decreased fee as their talented squad go in search of elite European football.

Randal Kolo Muani

Currently playing for Juventus at the Club World Cup, there is great uncertainty over the future of Randal Kolo Muani.

The Frenchman is set to return to Paris Saint-Germain after the tournament but his days look numbered in the French capital after being restricted to just two starts in Ligue 1 before his loan move to Italy.

Kolo Muani has impressed in Turin, scoring eight times in 13 Serie A starts but he also loves to drop deep and get involved in build-up away from the opposition penalty area.

Still just 26, Kolo Muani's situation means that he could be available for a very attractive fee with PSG reportedly ready to accept bids within the region of £35/£40m.

Hugo Ekitike

With every top club in Europe seemingly linked to Ekitike this summer, why can't Newcastle get in on the act?

The Magpies offer UEFA Champions League football, an adoring fanbase and, of course, a lot of money.

Hugo Ekitike profiles fairly similar to Kolo Muani - bouncing between PSG and the Bundesliga after bursting onto the scene as a youngster in the French top-flight.

He did set himself free of the French capital last summer, however, making the permanent switch to Eintracht Frankfurt for what now looks an incredibly shrewd fee of €16.5m.

Ekitike netted 22 goals in all competitions this season and similarly to Isak, possesses a skillset that impacts the game on a broader scale; highlighted by the 12 assists he laid on for teammates in 2024/25.

Still just 23 years old and contracted until 2028, Ekitike will be expensive but should Newcastle sell Alexander Isak then money will be no barrier to a potential transfer.
