Rookie quarterback CJ Stroud downed the Cleveland Browns in his first playoff appearance last season before the Texans were routed by the Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional round.
The Chargers last reached the postseason two years ago where they surrendered a 27-point deficit to lose 31-30 to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
With a 6-3 record on the road, Los Angeles have fared impressively on their travels, while Houston's form deteriorated following injuries to key personnel, with the Texans finishing the regular season with five losses from nine matches.
Over the past five games, Justin Herbert had a 108.7 passer rating with 10 touchdowns and two interceptions, with rookie receiver Ladd McConkey a major threat with over 1,100 yards for the season.
Houston have suffered with the loss of star wideouts Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell to season-ending injuries, while John Metchie III is questionable after returning to limited practice.
Jeff Okudah (concussion), Denico Autry (knee), Folorunso Fatukasi (ankle) and Jake Hansen (ankle) are all doubts for Saturday's contest.
The Chargers designated Eli Apple to return from injured reserve and the cornerback participated in full practice on Wednesday.
Gus Edwards (ankle), JK Dobbins (ankle) and Trey Pipkins III (oblique) were all limited in practice, with Josh Palmer (foot), Quentin Johnston (thigh) and Ja'sir Taylor (oblique) all doubts for the Wild Card clash.
