Yorkshire Oaks Odds: Queen Of The Pride bids for York glory

The Yorkshire Oaks is the feature race on day two of York's Ebor Festival, with eight contenders set to contest what appears to be a wide open renewal of the Fillies' & Mares' Group 1 on the Knavesmire.

Aidan O'Brien has won three of the last four runnings of the Yorkshire Oaks with the likes of Love, Snowfall and Warm Heart and the Irishman saddles Content and Port Fairy this time around.

2024 Yorkshire Oaks Odds

(Odds will display when the market is available)

Queen Of The Pride

John Gosden trained four winners of this race from 2009-2019 and will now attempt to win for the first time with son Thady on the training licence with Queen Of The Pride.

This daughter of Roaring Lion has won 3-5 in her career so far, including her last two starts. They came at Haydock over this trip and her most recent victory was in the bet365 Lancashire Oaks last month, as she came from the rear to win in clear cut fashion under Oisin Murphy, with today's rival Sea Theme a weakening sixth.

Content

Content is one of two contenders for O'Brien, who seeks an eighth win in this race and what would be his sixth success since 2014.

This daughter of Galileo is 0-4 this season but was a staying on fourth in the Pretty Polly Stakes over 1m2f at the Curragh in June and perhaps a shade unlucky back there last time in the Irish Oaks on her first crack at this trip, as Ryan Moore had to wait for a gap before running on steadily to finish a half length behind the re-opposing You Got To Me.

Emily Upjohn

A second contender for John & Thady Gosden, Emily Upjohn is already a dual Group 1 winner in her career, landing the Fillies and Mares at Ascot on Champions Day in 2022 and the Coronation Cup at Epsom last summer – both over this trip.

She didn't fire at Epsom in the defence of that crown in June but was perhaps an unlucky second behind the talented Bluestocking in the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh (1m2f, yielding to soft) on her next start, having been committed for home some way out.

Everything went against her since at Glorious Goodwood and that run is easily overlooked, while she was an impressive winner of the Musidora Stakes on her only previous York appearance in 2022.

You Got To Me

Ralph Beckett's Nathaniel filly You Got To Me only had two starts last year but has improved steadily in a four-race sequence this season. She won the Lingfield Oaks Trial in May, finished fourth in the Classic itself at Epsom in June before occupying the same berth as Port Fairy won the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot.

She arrives here having held off Content to win the Irish Oaks at the Curragh last month in a first-time tongue-tie (retained now) and she may not be done improving just yet.

Mistral Star

Mistral Star, the daughter of Frankel, was perhaps unfortunate when third behind Queen Of The Pride at Haydock in June, having repeatedly had to switch course en route to finishing third in Group 3 company.

The winner took out the bet365 Lancashire Oaks next time, while Hughie Morrison's filly was a convincing winner in Listed grade at Newmarket (1m4f, good to firm) last month. This will demand more from her but she has champion jockey William Buick on board for the first time.

Lava Stream

David O'Meara's Too Darn Hot filly, Lava Stream, scored in Listed company at Goodwood (1m2f, good) in June, running on strongly to earn a narrow verdict before finishing a neck second behind Port Fairy in the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot 11 days later on her first attempt at this trip.

Those runs represented some fairly rapid progress but she was unable to sustain it in the Irish Oaks last month, making little impact as today's rivals You Got To Me and Content fought out the finish.

Sea Theme

An impressive winner of a Listed contest at this meeting 12 months ago, Sea Theme lost her way somewhat afterwards and has twice been well held in races won by Queen Of The Pride at Haydock this summer.

She did, though, get back on track with a Listed success in France on her most recent appearance and trainer William Haggas will be hoping she builds on that now for his in-form team.

Port Fairy

Australia filly Port Fairy went very close in the Cheshire Oaks at Chester in May and then battled gamely under Ryan Moore to win the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot from Lava Stream in June.

The top rider deserted her in favour of Content in the Irish Oaks last month and she was laboured in the finish after holding every chance in the home straight. Moore prefers her stablemate again here.
