York's fascinating three-day Dante meeting kicks off on Wednesday with a seven-race card.
The latest horse racing betting tips for the live ITV action from Racing Post tipster Robbie Wilders.
2.15 York - Saratoga Gold @ 33/1
2.45 York - Makanah @ 11/1
3.45 York - Friendly Soul @ 10/11
2.15 York - Saratoga Gold @ 33/1
York's Dante meeting opens with the Jorvik Handicap and this is always a tricky contest to solve. The early market has the right types near the top, but perhaps Saratoga Gold has been underestimated as one of the outsiders.
Saratoga Gold ran okay when a massive price in the Ebor here for Charlie Hills last term off a 7lb higher mark, and showed enough spark on his first start for Kevin Frost when fifth at Epsom last month to suggest he could be one to follow.
Frost has a decent record with getting the most out of his new recruits and the six-year-old didn't find himself particularly well positioned given the way the race panned out at Epsom.
He has been dropped 1lb in the weights and should be all the better with that outing behind him and Clifford Lee renewing their partnership.
2.45 York - Makanah @ 11/1
The following 6f sprint is even harder, although having Makanah on your side each-way for this type of race on the Knavesmire is never a bad thing.
Makanah simply loves it at York and has form figures of 45542444 in big-field sprint handicaps there.
Significantly, all of those efforts came off higher marks and he seems almost certain to be competitive off 94, his lowest rating since 2019.
Having dusted off the cobwebs with a good staying-on fourth from off the pace at Newmarket over 5f on his return in April (was tricky to come from off the speed at that meeting), Makanah can go three places better over an additional furlong with this race likely to have been his early season aim.
3.45 York - Friendly Soul @ 10/11
The Gosdens have a superb record in this registered Classic trial and a replication of Friendly Soul's Newmarket triumph in the Pretty Polly 10 days ago will surely be enough for her to cement her French Oaks credentials.
In pulling well clear with odds-on favourite Kalpana in that, Friendly Soul produced the highest Topspeed figure on the 1,000 Guineas card and gave the impression the sky was the limit for her. The runner-up had a fitness edge too.
This quick turnaround after running a good time is the obvious worry, but this field lacks depth. Her chief rival Classical Song bled when last seen and may need this, while the remainder need to find significant improvement.
