Friday's York Horse Racing Betting Tips and Odds

14:45 – Majestic - 7/1
15:15 – Bright Thunder - 10/1
15:45 – Vauban - 4/1

14:45 – Majestic - 7/1

The 1m21/2f handicap (14:45) is an ultra-competitive handicap, but there is not a better treated horse in the race than MAJESTIC and he will be hard to beat if he can reproduce the form he showed last year.

Majestic was fourth in this race 12 months ago off a 1lb higher mark and finished behind subsequent winners Marhaba The Champ and Spirit Dancer. The latter has gone on to score in Group company.

The selection went on to run several solid races later in the season, including when beaten only a length and a quarter into fourth of 34 in the Cambridgeshire at Newmarket.

He has returned from a break this season with another two superb efforts at that track, finishing fifth at the Craven meeting and then a close fourth in a traditionally hot race on 2000 Guineas day last time.

Trainer Jack Channon’s string is in superb form and Majestic looks certain to run well once again.

15:15 – Bright Thunder - 10/1

The mile Listed race (15:15) is another cracking contest and the one who interests me is BRIGHT THUNDER, who is stepped up significantly in class by trainer Karl Burke and he knows what he is doing.

Bright Thunder was an impressive winner on her debut at Haydock. She travelled powerfully through that mile novice for fillies and quickly put the race to bed with an impressive turn of foot. She was going further and further clear at the line and scored by five lengths, with nine lengths to the third.

That was an outstanding effort, especially for a filly on her debut, and she is open to plenty of further improvement now that she tackles this better company on only her second outing.

The time that she recorded on her debut was solid, without being outstanding, but the sectionals that she put in through the closing stages were good and she can make the step up.

15:45 – Vauban - 4/1

The feature Yorkshire Cup (15:45) is a clash between the up-and-coming stars in the staying division and plenty will want to be on Tower Of London or Gregory, who look like the two improvers in the race.

However, Tower Of London has to concede weight all round and Gregory was disappointing towards the end of last season, so the one to be on is the formerly classy juvenile hurdler VAUBAN.

The Willie Mullins-trained six-year-old lost his way over hurdles, but reinvented himself as a top stayer last season and was mightily impressive when slamming the subsequent Ebor winner Absurde by seven and a half lengths in the Copper Horse Handicap at Royal Ascot in June.

That is among the best form on offer in this race and Vauban proved it was no fluke when winning over 1m4f at Naas next time. He disappointed on his last outing in the Melbourne Cup at Flemington, but that is not an easy race for a European horse to win and he can bounce back on his return here.
