There is some cracking racing on Wednesday with Listed action from the second day of Yarmouth’s three-day festival the highlight.
The latest horse racing betting tips for today’s card at Yarmouth from Racing Post tipster Graeme Rodway.
16:05 – Roi De France @ 5/4
16:40 – Overture @ 11/4
17:15 – Bona Fortuna @ 7/2
16:05 – Roi De France @ 5/4
The 1m1f handicap (16:05) provides a good opportunity for the John and Thady Gosden-trained Roi De France to continue his improvement and make a successful handicap debut.
The son of Sea The Stars has steadily progressed in three outings in novice company and produced an impressive display when running away with a mile event at Windsor in July. He had three individual subsequent winners behind that day and was nicely clear, scoring by two and three-quarter lengths.
The handicapper has given him a mark of 95 for his handicap debut, but he is bred to be significantly better than that as a son of Sea The Stars out of the smart mare Danilovna. His pedigree also strongly points to him improving for a longer trip and the extra furlong here is clearly in Roi De France’s favour.
It won’t take much more progress for him to shrug aside this field and there should be more to come.
16:40 – Overture @ 11/4
The 1m31/2f handicap (16:40) comes up next and it’s hard to get away from the rapidly progressive Overture, who is fancied to make it four wins on the bounce for the Sir Mark Prescott stable.
The New Approach filly just keeps getting better and her last two wins have come by distances of five and a half lengths and three and a quarter lengths, so the handicapper hasn’t got hold of her just yet.
Another 11lb rise in the weights will demand more from Overture, but she is bred to be a good bit better than her current mark of 81. Her dam is Tribute Act, who had a BHA rating of 106 at her best.
She remains unexposed at this distance and should have plenty more to offer now that she goes up another half-furlong in trip. We also know she handles this course as she has scored at the track.
17:15 – Bona Fortuna @ 7/2
The 6f handicap (17:15) brings the curtain down on the card and the one to be on here is Bona Fortuna, who should appreciate returning to 6f after a defeat over 7f at Newbury last month.
The three-year-old travelled well on that occasion but folded tamely and hung badly when under pressure to finish fifth. It’s possible that he didn’t see out the extra furlong and it’s no surprise that he is down in trip, while the form doesn’t look too bad because he had two subsequent winners in behind him.
Bona Fortuna had previously looked good when winning two starts in a row over 6f at Brighton and Windsor, and is only 3lb higher than when landing his last handicap in July. He still looks fairly treated.
He is a keen-goer, so has plenty more to come at this shorter distance and is fancied to bounce back to his best form under Rossa Ryan, who is back on board after riding last time and has a good record for the Mick Appleby yard.
