Wolferton Stakes Odds: Israr and Torito share favouritism

Israr and Torito are both expected to produce the goods when they compete in the Listed Wolferton Stakes at Royal Ascot on Tuesday.

There are four Group races on the day's card, including three Group One events, while there will still be plenty riding on the Wolferton Stakes, the sole Listed race on Tuesday's schedule.

The race has attracted 16 runners, who will compete over 1m1f, and if the market is anything to go by, it should be a competitive affair, with stablemates Israr and Torito jostling for favouritism at the front of the market.

John and Thady Gosden will expect a response from Israr as he drops down in class to compete in Tuesday's penultimate race.

He finished second in a Group 2 race to Passenger at Chester last month, but Passenger does not line up in this contest, giving connections the confidence the son of Muhaarar can get the job done.

Jim Crowley has been unable to win on Israr in the last four races, but Tuesday's contest looks like it should suit him as he tries to return to the form that helped him win a Group 2 last summer.

Israr's stablemate Torito is also looking to return to winning ways this week, having finished third at Newmarket in May.

The four-year-old has only won twice from six outings, but connections clearly fancy their chances as they head to Royal Ascot.

Torito was gelded in December and shaped well over 1m1f in May, so if he can build on that display, he should be right up there at the business end of the race.

Roger Varian's Botanical is chasing a hat-trick on Tuesday, and connections will expect another big run from the son of Lope De Vega.

The four-year-old has never finished outside the top three since making his debut in 2023, and a fourth-career win is not out of the question.

He beat King's Code at York last month but drops down in trip for Tuesday's Wolferton Stakes. He has won over 1m1f in the past, and at the odds, he offers plenty of value considering his recent form.

Astro King

There are plenty of miles on the clock of Astro King, but a recent strong display in a Group 2 contest suggests there could still be some big days ahead of trainers Daniel and Claire Kubler.

Astro King was fourth at Newmarket in that Group 2 contest, while he finished second at HQ in April. The form suggests the yard have got into a nice rhythm with the son of Kingman.

Haunted Dream

Haunted Dream has not won since April 2023, and he has appeared 10 times since then.

He was moved from Ed Dunlop's yard to Hamad Al-Jehani's stable, and has at least brought some consistency to his results, with two top-four finishes from three runs, but he will need a career-best display to even trouble the places.

Ancient Rome

Ancient Rome won two races in the autumn of 2023, including a US Grade 3 at Kentucky Downs.

He has not been seen since finishing fourth at Paris Longchamp in September, and he will have to carry a 5lb penalty when competing in Berkshire on Tuesday.

Charles Hills has clearly planned this run in advance, and his family connections suggest he could run a big race on fast ground.
