There are three meetings over jumps and one Flat fixture on the all-weather this Wednesday and they provide plenty of good opportunities for bettors to get involved.
The latest horse racing betting tips for Wednesday’s cards from Racing Post tipster Graeme Rodway.
16:28 Wetherby - Time Was @ 15/2
18:30 Kempton - Kaaranah @ 4/1
19:00 Kempton - Timetobenice @ 4/1
16:28 Wetherby – Time Was @ 15/2
The 3m handicap chase (16:28) at Wetherby can go to Time Was, who has run only twice over fences under rules and produced her best effort yet when second in a novice handicap at this track last time.
Time Was finished only two and a half lengths behind the winner Jumper Madrik on that occasion and the front three came 13 lengths clear of the remainder in a solid time for the grade. The selection made mistakes in the home straight and might have finished closer with a cleaner round of jumping.
The well-held seventh has since finished a good second in a handicap chase at Newcastle, giving the form a solid look, and Time Was had loads of form over this three-mile trip over hurdles. She would almost certainly have found the 2m31/2f on the short side last time, so returning to further will suit.
Trainer Phil Kirby’s string has hit form recently and this 3m point winner can give him another winner.
18:30 Kempton – Kaaranah @ 4/1
The first division of the mile handicap (18:30) at Kempton provides a good opportunity for Kaaranah, who recorded his last victory over course and distance in September 2023 following an 84-day break and must be of interest now he returns to the course for the first time since, after 60 days off the track.
Trainer John Butler evidently realises that Kaaranah is best when fresh at this course and the seven-year-old showed that he has the ability to win again when third at Newcastle in December. He finished only a length and a quarter behind winner Urban Road and didn’t seem to stay the 1m2f trip.
The drop back to a mile is definitely in Kaaranah’s favour and Butler has booked David Egan to ride. That looks like a significant booking because the jockey has already booted home 11 winners for Butler.
19:00 Kempton – Timetobenice @ 4/1
The second division of the mile handicap (17:00) at Kempton is another open race and Timetobenice could go well. He is a course-and-distance winner who seems at his best over this right-handed track.
Timetobenice has a win, a second and a close fourth from just three starts at Kempton and is now 2lb lower than when beaten just a length in fourth over course and distance last month. The second and 10th from that race are subsequent winners and the third was beaten just a head next time, so the form is hot.
The selection was unable to add another victory to further bolster the strength of that form when only fifth at Wolverhampton last time, but he was beaten just two lengths and that was away from his favourite track. There is every chance that the return to this venue will do the trick for him this time.
The tonguestrap and cheekpieces combination that he wore for the first time on that occasion are back on again and this looks like a golden opportunity for Timetobenice to land his first handicap.
