The bet365 Charlie Hall Chase is the first big race of the jumps season in Britain on Saturday at Wetherby and the entire card is sponsored by bet365.
Here are the latest horse racing betting tips for Saturday’s card at Wetherby from Racing Post tipster Graeme Rodway.
13:50 Wetherby – Take No Chances @ 4/1
14:22 Wetherby – Kateira @ 11/4
15:32 Wetherby – V Twelve @ 8/1
13:50 Wetherby – Take No Chances @ 4/1
Luccia is going to be a warm order for the bet365 Mares’ Hurdle (13:50) and she brings Grade 1 form to the table. However, she was a beaten 11/8 favourite in this race last season on her reappearance and her top-level form isn’t anything out of the ordinary. She finished third in the weakest running of the Champion Hurdle in memory and was well beaten by Impaire Et Passe at Aintree in April.
There is good reason to think that Luccia is beatable and Take No Chances might be capable of upsetting the market leader for Dan Skelton, who loves a Wetherby winner and is in great form.
Take No Chances has done most of her recent winning over further, but took the drop back to 2m31/2f in her stride when third in a hot handicap at Chepstow in October, finishing ahead of 14 rivals that day.
That will have brought her on fitness wise and she comes here with a run behind her, against several rivals who have fitness to prove. The drop back to 2m shouldn’t be a problem for Take No Chances and, with a prominent ride, the selection looks well equipped to expose any chinks in Luccia’s armour.
14:22 Wetherby – Kateira @ 11/4
The bet365 Hurdle (14:22) looks like a good opportunity for the Skelton-trained Kateira, who had Grade 1 form as a novice over hurdles and finally got it together last season at Aintree in April.
Kateira ran away with that Grade 3 handicap hurdle by a length and three-quarters and was no stronger than at the finish over 2m4f, shaping like she will improve for a stiffer test like this over 3m.
She has a good record when fresh, so should be ready to go on her return from 204 days off, and the Skelton stable has a superb record in this race. They have won two of the last four runnings.
Kateira’s chief rivals are chasers who have reverted to hurdles and might be on the downgrade, whereas she is going firmly the other way and it will be a surprise if she can’t continue her progress.
15:32 Wetherby – V Twelve @ 8/1
The Never Ordinary At bet365 Handicap Hurdle (15:32) brings the curtain down on the ITV4 action at Wetherby and the most interesting runner is V Twelve, who gets in off a feather weight.
The Martin Todhunter-trained five-year-old will race off just 9st 13lb when including rider William Maggs’s 5lb claim and the presence of Maggs in the saddle is a positive for V Twelve.
Maggs has ridden V Twelve only once before and that was to his last victory over hurdles in March, which came over course and distance. There is every chance that the selection has been lined up for a return to this track and he warmed up for this with a promising return to hurdles at Carlisle last time.
V Twelve had been in good form all summer on the Flat and made steady headway from the rear on that hurdle return last time, only to flatten out over the last couple of flights. He should improve with that under his belt and has dropped 1lb in the weights to a mark only 5lb higher than for his last win.
