There are a total of five meetings set to take place in Britain and Ireland on Tuesday; the majority of the action coming over jumps as the new National Hunt season clicks into gear.
Racing Post tipster, Marcus Buckland, has provided three recommendations for the day’s action
14:35 Southwell - Cheesy Icon @ 8/1
15:20 Punchestown - Killowen House @ 12/1
16:20 Southwell - Delulu @ 11/8
14:35 Southwell - Cheesy Icon @ 8/1
The Mel Rowley-trained Cheesy Icon is yet to win under rules in seven attempts, but he showed useful form in bumpers ealy in his career and progressed well over hurdles last season, suffering near misses on his final two outings.
The six-year-old has tended to take a keen hold in his races, but he ran with huge encouragement at Ludlow last November (beaten a head) and at Chepstow on the Welsh Grand National card the following month, going down by just half-a-length off a mark of 113 on his handicap debut.
Both the winner and the runner-up won next time, so although a 4lb rise is frustrating, there’s plenty of cause for optimism, particularly with a switch to fences at Southwell likely to bring about further improvement.
15:20 Punchestown - Killowen House @ 12/1
John Paul Gilligan’s Killowen House has taken well to hurdles and should have won over 3m2f at Ballinrobe in August, an untidy leap at the second-last proving costly in a tight finish.
The six-year-old was never a factor when dropped back to 2m4f at Listowel subsequently, but he was only beaten 11 lengths into seventh of the 15 runners and was doing all his best work in the closing stages.
A return to 3m at Punchestown is very much in his favour and there’s the potential for this to be strongly run, which will play very much to his strengths, as will the forecast good ground.
He ran to a Racing Post Rating of 118 when an eye-catching fourth of 20 at the Galway Festival in July, a repeat of which would give him major claims off his current official mark of 112.
16:20 Southwell - Delulu @ 11/8
The Dan Skelton team enjoyed plenty of success at Chepstow over the weekend and that momentum looks set to continue at Southwell on Tuesday, courtesy of hurdling debutante Delulu.
The four-year-old has had little go right in two bumper starts at Worcester so far, suffering a luckless short-head defeat on her debut in August before she was undone by a lack of pace when finishing a never-nearer third over the same C&D last month.
The bare form of those bumpers is nothing out of the ordinary, but she’s from a good jumping family and could take a big step forward, aided by a first-time hood.

14:35 Southwell - Cheesy Icon @ 8/1
15:20 Punchestown - Killowen House @ 12/1
16:20 Southwell - Delulu @ 11/8
