Tuesday’s Horse Racing Betting Tips and Odds

15:15 Leicester – Overabottleofred @ 13/8
16:00 Catterick – Not Staying Long @ 1/1
17:00 Catterick – Final Edgar @ 12/1

15:15 Leicester – Overabottleofred @ 13/8

The 2m4f mares’ handicap chase at Leicester looks like a good opportunity for Overabottleofred, who made a promising debut over fences at the course in December, to claim the spoils.

The Tom Gretton-trained six-year-old was having just her fifth start under rules, after a 224-day absence, and would probably have got closer to the winner but for a sloppy leap at the third-last fence. Nevertheless, she was still beaten only two and a quarter lengths and was clear of the rest.

That form was franked when the well-held third won next time and Overabottleofred probably found the 2m 61/2f stretching her stamina because she had been keen early on. The drop back two-and-a-half furlongs in trip here might suit and there should be plenty of improvement to come.

She races off the same mark back at the scene of that good effort and should be difficult to beat.

16:00 Catterick – Not Staying Long @ 1/1

The 2m3f novice limited handicap chase at Catterick has attracted a small but select field and the one to be on is Not Staying Long, who is fancied to complete a course-and-distance hat-trick.

Not Staying Long recorded her first victory here by 20 lengths and made light work of a 10lb rise in the weights when following up just 11 days later, when she had a subsequent winner behind in second.

Both of those wins came on good ground and she is up another 15lb in the weights, but she has won on heavy going before and is going forward fast enough to improve enough to defy a rise in the weights.

She returns from a short break for a trainer in Patrick Neville who loves a winner at Catterick. She is 7-32 at the course in the last five seasons, with another two seconds and five finishing third.

17:00 Catterick – Final Edgar @ 12/1

The 3m11/2f handicap hurdle is a stamina test with which to end the card and Final Edgar should be well suited by the step up in distance judging on his close second at the course last month.

Final Edgar was a big eyecatcher that day over 2m 31/2f, on his return from a break, with the cheekpieces left off. He had looked in trouble from an early stage but flew home to be beaten only a neck by the winner and would surely have won with a bit further to go. This longer trip is sure to suit.

He was disappointing when beaten 17 lengths back over 2m 31/2f here last time, but again went without the sheepskin and that race was run at a steady early gallop. It turned into a sprint finish and that definitely wouldn’t have suited Final Edgar, who looks as though he needs a thorough test of stamina.

The cheekpieces return for the selection now and Final Edgar is 7lb lower than when starting out in handicap hurdles. This looks like a golden opportunity for him to get his head back in front.
