Horse racing tips: Quick Draw looks ready to hit the target

There are three meetings in Britain on Thursday and Racing Post tipster Graeme Rodway is back with his best bets across the cards.

Graeme Rodway's tips

3.00 Ffos Las - Mario De Pail @ 8/1
3.45 Wincanton - Quick Draw @ 4/1
7.30 Chelmsford - Pop Dancer @ 9/2

Horse Racing

3.00 Ffos Las - Mario De Pail @ 8/1

Peter Bowen has saddled more winners at Ffos Las (32) than at any other course in Britain in the last five seasons and it's worth giving his MARIO DE PAIL another chance in the 3m novice handicap chase. Maybe the return to fences will be the spark he needs for a revival.

Mario De Pail has failed to shine on his last two starts over hurdles, but his last run over fences was a good one as he was beaten only 11-lengths into fourth in a hot contest at Carlisle. He was in front until after the second-last fence and only weakened from there.

That was a Class 3 event for horses rated 0-135, but Mario De Pail turns up here in a Class 4 contest (0-120) off 5lb lower than for that good fourth and gets in 2lb above the ceiling.

He might just hold a class edge and Robbie Dunne is an eye-catching jockey booking. He has ridden for Bowen only nine times in the last five seasons, yielding a second and two thirds.

Graeme Rodway's tip:

Mario De Pail @ 8/1 - 1pt win

3.45 Wincanton - Quick Draw @ 4/1

The 3m1f handicap chase at Wincanton could also go to the top weight because QUICK DRAW has been competing in stronger company and should appreciate dropping back in class.

The eight-year-old looked better than ever when beating course specialist Volcano on his seasonal return at Ludlow in October and he improved his best Racing Post Rating by 8lb.

He was well fancied for a Class 2 handicap at Cheltenham on his next start that same month but didn't get competitive. He was never travelling and was pulled up by Nico de Boinville.

It's possible he needs to be fresh to show his best form as his last three runs after breaks of at least 50 days have yielded form figures of 231 and he returns from 96 days off in this race. That, coupled with a significant ease in grade, may be what's needed for him to bounce back.

Graeme Rodway's tip:

Quick Draw @ 4/1 - 1pt win

7.30 Chelmsford - Pop Dancer @ 9/2

The 5f handicap (7.30) is the feature at Chelmsford's evening meeting and it's a very tight race. Maybe the one to be on is the in-form POP DANCER, who still looks well handicapped.

The seven-year-old has won off marks in the 80s in the past and took advantage of being rated just 75 when landing a 5f handicap at Wolverhampton in November in cosy fashion.

He is only 2lb higher than for that success here and has twice run solid races off this mark on his last two starts. He was a close fifth at Southwell in December and returned here to finish three-quarters of a length behind in second in a handicap over course and distance last month.

He is a course-and-distance winner, so the return to this track looks certain to suit, and it's a matter of time before he registers another win off his current mark. This could be the night.

Graeme Rodway's tip:

Pop Dancer @ 9/2 - 1pt win
