Horse Racing betting tips: Overactive can enhance Ralph Beckett's form

There's some decent action at Leicester and Windsor on Sunday and the Racing Post's Gary Savage has found three worth an interest.

Leicester 4.28 - Overactive @ 13/8

Ralph Beckett has his string in tremendous form with a 27% success rate this month, and he can enhance that with the progressive 3yo Overactive looking a good bet to follow up his Lingfield success.

It has taken a while for the penny to drop as that was the gelding's fourth handicap, but he had excuses on the other three and will surely prove better than his current mark.

He was too keen on his first handicap in May so was dropped back in trip on his next outing, presumably to help him learn to settle, where he ran an encouraging race, despite getting outpaced.

Next time over 10f here, he was unlucky to bump into Ian Williams' Golden Maverick, coming clear with that one who has won twice since and is now rated 14lb higher.

He made no mistake last time when stepped back up to near this trip on fast ground at Lingfield.

A four-runner field and slow pace would have given him every chance to underperform but his new-found tractability saw him come home with ease.

Another 6lb on his back shouldn't matter and he can take a step up the ladder at the main expense of another progressive type in Ajyad.

Leicester 5.28 - Storm Asset @ 11/2

Tony Carroll did his usual smash-and-grab job at the Brighton festival this week, coming away with five winners, and, with his runner the only one in this race a winner on the prevailing ground, he can be fancied to bounce back to form.

His fast-ground win came in a Class 6 at Nottingham over this trip when following up a cosy win at Wolverhampton.

Both races were more competitive affairs than this contest, and both came under today's rider Millie Wonnacott.

He was unable to notch the hat-trick last time over a mile at Brighton but it's easy to draw a line through that run, as he has performed below par in four runs at that idiosyncratic course.

With Leicester often favouring prominent runners and with a good draw in stall 2, if his jockey can get the fractions right he can beat rivals with plenty of doubts hanging over them.

The amateur riders' races are always of interest with a fair spread of abilities in the saddle, and Eirean Cagney always catches my eye in this kind of race.

His mount Charlie Arthur looks ready to bounce back to form and must be rated a danger, but it's impossible to overlook the claims of the 2019 winner of this, and standing dish here at Windsor, Broad Appeal, with the ground coming in his favour.

Although a 9yo now, age is usually no barrier to success in this kind of contest and fast ground Windsor contests seem to bring out the best in him with his last two wins coming here on good to firm and good ground.

When beating Roy Rocket under today's jockey James Harding in 2019, he ran off a mark 16lb higher than today's, but you don't need to go back that far to make a case for him as in 2021 he was running solid races from similar marks.

He was sent off favourite for this off 69 on unsuitably soft ground that year but after a curtailed 2022 and some down-the-field runs on the AW this winter he runs today off 52.

He has had only one outing this year when staying on nicely over 1m2f here in May in what was actually a decent race for the grade, and he's worth an interest today at what should be a backable price.
