Horse racing betting tips: Monterosa can down Godolphin hotpot at Kempton

Racing Post tipster Robbie Wilders supplies his three best bets across the cards in Britain on Wednesday, with two selections from Ludlow and one from Kempton.

Robbie Wilders' tips

2.25 Ludlow - Malaita @ 7/2
2.55 Ludlow - Royal Deeside @ 4/1
5.30 Kempton - Monterosa @ 4/1

Horse Racing

2.25 Ludlow - Malaita @ 7/2

I backed MALAITA for a better race than Ludlow’s 2m4f handicap chase at one of the abandoned days of Lingfield’s Winter Million meeting in January, and I won’t be deserting her now.

Trainer Mel Rowley’s horses are running really well and Malaita was sent off the well-backed second favourite to beat the smart La Mamalson in a good mares’ contest at Cheltenham in December, going nicely in front before crashing out at the third-last.

The eight-year-old proved the fall didn’t leave a mark next time by running a sound race over this course and distance in early January, pulling miles clear of the third when admittedly put in her place by a winner who was thrown in on his hurdles form.

An unexposed chaser whose best days are surely ahead of her, Malaita can deservedly break her duck over fences.

Robbie Wilders' tip:

Malaita @ 7/2 - 1pt win

2.55 Ludlow - Royal Deeside @ 4/1

ROYAL DEESIDE is interesting for a number of reasons in the two-mile handicap hurdle later at Ludlow. For starters, he is rated 74 on the Flat and making his handicap debut over hurdles off a mark of just 98, having shown good progression with each run in this sphere.

Sent off the 13/8 favourite to defeat subsequent Grade 2 winner and live Triumph hope Salver in a Warwick maiden hurdle in November, Royal Deeside has been unlucky to bump into other decent prospects in juvenile hurdles in recent outings, most recently finding Harry Derham's Adonis-bound Givemefive too speedy at Warwick in January.

The bottom weight benefits from an 8lb weight-for-age allowance. Alan King’s horses are going well and he could have plenty up his sleeve from the assessor off a lenient opening rating against limited opposition who probably lack his class.

Robbie Wilders' tip:

Royal Deeside @ 4/1 - 1pt win

5.30 Kempton - Monterosa @ 4/1

The final wager is MONTEROSA, who is taken to frustrate backers of Godolphin’s forecast favourite Los Toldos in Kempton’s 1m4f novice.

A 750,000gns purchase as a yearling, the Charlie Appleby-trained three-year-old didn’t bring up any trees on his debut and doesn’t hold any fancy future entries, as many from this source often do.

There is little doubt he’ll have to find something extra to defeat the returning Monterosa, who was a steady improver in the autumn for John and Thady Gosden.

Progression from her seems virtually guaranteed with another winter on her back as a daughter of Frankel whose dam Anapurna upped her game at three to win the Oaks.

That is a top-class pedigree and an extra two furlongs can ensure Monterosa takes her form to a new level in a winnable heat.

Robbie Wilders' tip:

Monterosa @ 4/1 - 1pt win
