Horse racing tips: Mac's Legacy can be Hereford hero

There's only one British meeting in Sunday but it's competitive fare at Hereford and the Racing Post's Gary Savage has found some potential bets.

Despite the amount of rain around the country recently, Hereford seems to have taken it well and if the going stick readings on Saturday are reliable it won't be far off good to soft after a drying day on Saturday.

That will certainly enhance the prospects of Gary Moore's six year old who has taken really well to fences this season as he has won twice, and been placed a further four times from seven starts on good ground.

He did particularly well to go close last time after meeting the fifth from home all wrong, and as that was on soft ground there are grounds for expecting more to come.

The Moore team continues in fine form and they are 4-12 here in recent seasons and this prominent racer should be well suited to this course.

A step up in trip on handicap debut helped Rebecca Curtis' gelding run his best race to date at the course last time, and even though today's contest is less of a test he showed enough on that latest start to be of strong interest today.

He travelled strongly over 3m that day, and had everything bar the well-handicapped winner in trouble from some way out. That was on good ground so a drop back 3f on slightly softer going should see Ben Jones able to make plenty of use of him.

He made a race of it with Major Fortune that day, and the winner has boosted the form in no uncertain manner since with two more wins.

Jockey Ben Jones is not only in fantastic form, but has a great record for Rebecca Curtis with five winners, eight seconds and five third places from only 28 rides for the stable this year.

Bumper runners that have run well are always worth opposing on their next start as they usually take up too much of the market.

Celtic Sea was narrowly beaten at Ludlow, but it wasn't much of a race and one of the newcomers is likely to be too good for him today.

Tom Symonds has a much-improved record in this type of race in recent seasons and Ocean Walz can enhance that record.

He is a half-brother to Sizing Pottsie, who won a bumper on his debut for Jessica Harrington and was a useful gelding, while his dam achieved an RPR of 140 in France.

His French sire has had only three runners in bumpers in Britain, but one was a narrow second and another was third so there looks enough to expect a good debut run.
