Horse Racing betting tips: Guard can destroy some dreams in International Hurdle

Robbie Wilders from the Racing Post is gearing up for a big day at Cheltenham and provides four selections.

Robbie Wilders’ tips

12.40 Cheltenham - Es Perfecto @ 6/1
1.50 Cheltenham - Datsalrightgino @ 6/1
3.00 Cheltenham - Guard Your Dreams @ 25/1
3.35 Cheltenham - Botox Has @ 8/1

Horse Racing

12.40 Cheltenham - Es Perfecto @ 6/1

The novice handicap chase on this card is invariably a superb formline and was fought out last season by subsequent big-race winners Stage Star and Datsalrightgino.

bet365 are giving punters a helping hand by paying four places and ES PERFECTO is attracting my attention.

Es Perfecto returned from a 197-day break at Cheltenham in November, only to finish second by 10 lengths to Ginny's Destiny over course and distance, the winner that day is now 15lb worse off in the weights than my selection.

Alan King's runner was then given an overly patient ride when a staying-on third place to reopposing Blow Your Wad at Kempton last time in a race that usually works out well (winner is 6lb worse off this time).

He was conceding race fitness to the winner there and lacked chasing experience.

The bottomweight has to be well handicapped off a mark of 124 and, after such an encouraging two runs in this sphere, is too big of a price in relation to Blow Your Wad and Ginny's Destiny, two admittedly smart types with Grade 1 entries in the Turners Novices' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

Robbie Wilders’ tip:

Es Perfecto @ 6/1 - 1pt each-way

Horse Racing Betting Tips

1.50 Cheltenham - Datsalrightgino @ 6/1

Coral Gold Cup winner DATSALRIGHTGINO is one of the early outsiders for the Cotswold Chase. While all six can be given a chance in a belter of a race, I would have him shorter in the betting.

Datsalrightgino has essentially spent most of his life running over the wrong trip. He is a staying chaser and connections’ masterplan to get him into the Coral Gold Cup off a decent handicap mark paid handsome dividends.

He could have been called the winner a long way from home in one of jump racing’s most competitive events, evidently relishing the extra yardage.

Handicaps are a thing of the past now for Datsalrightgino, but I think he’s better than his new mark of 159 and everything looks in place for a big run under Gavin Sheehan.

Robbie Wilders’ tip:

Datsalrightgino @ 6/1 - 1pt win

3.00 Cheltenham - Guard Your Dreams @ 25/1

The International Hurdle looks like a match between Cheltenham Festival hopefuls Lossiemouth and Love Envoi according to the early market, but I don’t see it like that and will be backing GUARD YOUR DREAMS at a massive price.

This horse is the only runner not penalised in the line up and he landed this race three years ago, a fair effort for a five-year-old.

While we have only seen him a handful of times since (this will be his first run in 660 days), I find it interesting that Nigel Twiston-Davies has seen fit to enter him in the Champion Hurdle despite the fact he is only rated 140.

Twiston-Davies is potentially squandering a decent handicap mark here, but the trainer clearly likes this race (he has saddled four of the last nine winners including three successes with The New One), and I expect Guard Your Dreams to be fit enough to do himself justice.

Robbie Wilders’ tip:

Guard Your Dreams @ 25/1 - 1pt win

3.35 Cheltenham - Botox Has @ 8/1

bet365 are paying three places for the seven-runner Cleeve Hurdle and, having already supported Strong Leader at bigger odds earlier this week, I’m going to play BOTOX HAS too.

This market is dominated by veterans and Grand National winner Noble Yeats, who is probably a much better chaser.

Botox Has has ground to make up on a few of these following his sixth-placed finish in the Long Walk Hurdle, but he flattened the second-last and that cost him any realistic chance at Ascot, while the ground was quicker than he’d ideally have liked it.

It is worth remembering this unexposed stayer gave 4lb and a good beating to Dashel Drasher only two starts back at Wetherby and, if a first-time visor can eke more improvement from him (Gary Moore is 3-11 when applying the aid to his horses for the first time since the start of 2023), he can make the first three and possibly even win.

Robbie Wilders’ tip:

Botox Has @ 8/1 - 1pt each-way
