There is a short-priced favourite in the Hilary Needler Stakes in the shape of Midnight Affair, whose claims are obvious after she was hampered in a warm Newmarket maiden when second on her debut. 

However, her odds look on the skinny side in a race packed with unknown quantities and nice pedigrees to match. 

Beverley is one of the stiffest tracks in the country and form over further is never a harm. Therefore, I am going to suggest backing Charlie Johnston's No Nay Never filly NEVER FEAR, who is out of a Group 2-placed miler and scored in good style when making all over 6f on her debut at Wolverhampton. 

Her stamina is assured and Johnston juveniles are usually hardy and tough to pass. She looks a typical example and I could see her being difficult to reel in on Beverley's taxing straight. 

The other to support is the David O'Meara-trained maiden TALLULABELLE, who is by Jacques le Marois second Inns Of Court and a half-sister to top sire Adaay. 

O'Meara landed this last year and Tallulabelle's relatives have all been strong-staying sprinters or milers. 

The sharp 5f at Thirsk just caught her out on her debut when she finished an encouraging half-length third (demoted from second in the stewards' room after causing interference from hanging) behind an impressive winner who I half fancy to run well in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot this month. 

My selection will know more this time and will be a player if Oisin Orr can keep her on the straight and narrow.

2.40 Beverley - Ugo Gregory @ 3/1

The draw has been exceptionally kind to UGO GREGORY in the following handicap. This looks a straightforward race to solve as he arrives in top form and is berthed in stall one, so will feasibly not see another rival under David Allan. 

Ugo Gregory attempted to make every yard in a similar course-and-distance contest 10 days ago but was headed in the final stride, losing by a nose. 

This is a similar race and he is up 3lb in the weights, but he remains well-treated on past form as he remains 12lb below his last winning mark. 

Ugo Gregory loves it at Beverley (form figures of 242314811 in handicaps there) and can notch another success at his happiest hunting ground for Tim Easterby.

The Two Year Old Trophy is never a race to pin maximum faith to one juvenile, but I like the claims of FUSTERLANDIA for Richard Hannon. 

Fusterlandia is still a maiden, but receives 4lb from his three key market rivals and has run to a similar level as each of Bombay Bazaar, Cuban Slide and Room Service have on Racing Post Ratings. 

The son of Mehmas shaped with plenty of encouragement on his debut at Leicester 11 days ago, splitting two impeccably bred colts who had the benefit of previous experience. 

I'm not expecting the drop down to 5f to cause him any issues as he looked speedy there, and this track often places an emphasis on stamina over the minimum distance. 

Hannon has been firing in stacks of juvenile winners of late and his two-year-olds always step forward for a run. I'm expecting Fusterlandia to be the latest example for the powerful Amo Racing operation.
