Just four meetings take place in Britain and Ireland on Wednesday, but there are still some good wagers to be found across the cards.
14:05 Lingfield – Master Dandy @ 4/1
14:50 Carlisle - The Feminine Urge @ 15/8
15:55 Carlisle - Secret Command @ 11/2
14:05 Lingfield – Master Dandy @ 4/1
There are plenty of exposed runners in the opening 6f handicap (14:05) at Lingfield, but Master Dandy isn’t one of them and the James Fanshawe-trained gelding can get back on the scoresheet.
Master Dandy is without a win since landing a novice at Newcastle last November, but he has run back into some form on his last two starts at Southwell and might be capable of building on them.
He was beaten only two and a half lengths into second off 1lb higher than this two starts ago and improved again when only a length and a quarter behind the winner when second last time.
Master Dandy recorded his highest Racing Post Rating since January that day, so is evidently coming back to his best, and he has a huge chance off the same mark provided he can transfer that form to Polytrack. His pedigree suggests that won’t be a problem as he is related to winners on the surface.
14:50 Carlisle - The Feminine Urge @ 15/8
The 6f nursery handicap (14.50) at Carlisle features several promising juveniles but the one with the most potential is surely The Feminine Urge, who could prove well ahead of her mark.
The George Scott-trained filly showed promise on one of her three starts in novice and maiden company at Sandown, but took a huge step forward on her handicap debut at Catterick last month.
The Feminine Urge couldn’t get a run and had to be switched at a crucial stage, leaving her with a seemingly insurmountable task, but she took off when in the clear to get up and win on the line by a nose.
She is value for further than the winning margin as she would surely have scored a lot easier with a clear run and a 3lb rise in the weights looks far from harsh when taking that into account.
This will be only her fifth start, so further improvement should be forthcoming, and she can follow up.
15:55 Carlisle - Secret Command @ 11/2
The 5f handicap (15:55) at Carlisle can go to Secret Command, who has dropped to the same mark as when last successful at Catterick in June and appears to be on his way back to form.
Secret Command was a course-and-distance winner last year, so we know he likes it at this track, and he proved he is at home on a stiff finish when third in a 5f handicap at Beverley only last month.
The three-year-old attracted some support in the market that day and performed well when beaten only two lengths after racing prominently throughout in a contest that was run at a solid pace.
That form has taken a few knocks since, but Secret Command has dropped 1lb in the weights, despite shaping like he might be capable of better, and this is a weaker race back at the scene of one of his victories. It will be a surprise if he isn’t up to making his presence felt for trainer Adrian Nicholls.
