7/2

14:20 - Lingfield - Nachtgeist @ 11/4

Gary and Josh Moore love a winner at Lingfield and this 2m31/2f novice handicap hurdle (14:20) might be tailor-made for their runner, Nachtgeist, who has plenty more to offer for this team.

He is slowly getting his act together for the stable and ran his best race for the yard when a good second in a handicap hurdle over this trip at Huntingdon in October. He was beaten only four and a quarter lengths by the winner that day and put 11 lengths between himself and the rest of them.

Nachtgeist was stepped up in class in a novice handicap hurdle at Ascot last time and could never get competitive. However, that was a much stronger race than this and the drop in grade may do the trick.

He is down 1lb in the weights to the same mark as for his good Huntingdon effort last month and a reproduction of that form would give him a huge chance under useful 5lb claimer Freddie Mitchell.

14:45 - Musselburgh – Brandy McQueen @ 5/1

The 2m71/2 handicap chase (14:45) at Musselburgh looks like a good opportunity for Brandy McQueen, who has two wins and a third from just three starts at this track and loves it here.

The Gary Rutherford-trained gelding has dropped to a mark 10lb lower than when recording his last success at the course over hurdles and nearly cashed in when a close second at Kelso in October.

Brandy McQueen pulled nicely clear of the third, who has gone on to win again since, and a reproduction of that form would surely give the selection a big chance off a 1lb lower mark.

The worry is that he was disappointing when pulled up at Carlisle last time after being sent off joint-favourite, but this track suits him far better and there is every chance that he can bounce back.

15:20 - Musselburgh – Malangen @ 7/2

The 3m handicap hurdle (15:20) at Musselburgh can go to Malangen, who has twice run well on his last three starts and put in his best effort for a long time when second at Ayr a couple of weeks ago.

Malangen was beaten only a length and three-quarters by the winner that day and appeared to be rallying when making a mistake at the last. He might have gone close to winning but for that.

His last win came over 2m at Hexham and he doesn’t try this distance too often, but if he is going to stay it’s likely to be at a sharp track like Musselburgh where speed tends to be the key asset.

Regular rider Peter Kavanagh is on board claiming 3lb and trainer Lisa Harrison has saddled a winner and a second from her last three runners. Both came for this rider and Malangen could go well again.
