Thursday's Horse Racing Betting Tips and Odds

14:40 Fontwell – Broughshane - 6/4
16:20 Wincanton – Saladins Son -
1/1
19:00 Newcastle – Quiet Resolve -
7/2

14:40 Fontwell – Broughshane - 6/4

The best race of the entire day is the 2m3½f handicap chase (14:40) at Fontwell and BROUGHSHANE rates an outstanding bet to make it two wins from two at the Sussex track.

The Jonjo O'Neill-trained gelding was successful in a 2m3f handicap hurdle at the course last October and has since followed that with another victory at Southwell. He was disappointing when well held off this mark at Carlisle last time, but jumped left on that right-handed track and looked to need the run.

Broughshane should show the benefit of that first outing in three months now that he returns to competitive action only 17 days later and there could be improvement to come as he tries chasing for the first time.

He won his sole point-to-point in Ireland and is a half-brother to chase winner Bold Enough.

Broughshane is 9lb higher than when last successful but is still unexposed and a step ahead of the assessor.

16:20 Wincanton – Saladins Son - 1/1

The 3m1f handicap chase (16:20) is the pick of the action at Wincanton and it's hard to look beyond SALADINS SON, who looked like a horse going places when scoring over course and distance last time.

The Anthony Honeyball-trained gelding was having only his second start over fences on that occasion, having been pulled up on his chasing debut at Ffos Las, and he showed significant improvement when bolting up by six lengths from runner-up The Wrekin in a good time for the grade.

That made it two wins from three starts for Saladins Son since he joined the Honeyball yard out of Chris Gordon's stable and there should be plenty of further improvement to come for his new team.

Ground conditions are right too and it will be disappointing if he can't defy a 5lb rise in the weights.

19:00 Newcastle – Quiet Resolve - 7/2

The Flat racing comes from Newcastle in the evening and the nap of the night is QUIET RESOLVE, who simply loves this track and is fancied to land a second course-and-distance victory in the mile handicap (19:00).

The Richard Fahey-trained four-year-old is only 4lb higher than when last successful here and returned from a couple of below-par efforts away from his favourite venue with a good run last time.

Quiet Resolve was beaten only a neck into second in that course-and-distance handicap and had to do plenty of work to get to the lead. That took its toll late on and he was caught inside the final furlong.

A 1lb rise in the weights shouldn't stop Quiet Resolve going one better and Oisin Orr, who rode him to his last victory at the course, is back in the saddle to replace 7lb claimer Warren Fentiman.

That is an obvious plus, especially when considering that Orr has ridden him four times before and knows him well.
