It's Blue Riband Trial day at Epsom on Tuesday and the feature Listed race is supported by famous old handicaps the Great Metropolitan and the City & Suburban.
Here are the latest horse racing betting tips for Tuesday's card at Epsom from Racing Post tipster Graeme Rodway.
14:10 – Mountain Peak @ 10/1
14:45 – Chief Little Rock @ 11/10
15:20 – Ziggy @ 3/1
14:10 – Mountain Peak @ 10/1
The opening 5f handicap (2.10) will be fast-and-furious down the hill at Epsom and that scenario suits MOUNTAIN PEAK, who was beaten just a head into second in the Dash over course and distance in 2022.
The Ed Walker-trained nine-year-old was rated 104 at this time last year but runs off just 90 here and showed that mark might not be beyond him when a close second in a 5f handicap at Ascot last year.
That was a return to form for Mountain Peak and, although he was unable to build on that back at Ascot last time, he still ran well to be beaten only three lengths into fifth after setting a strong pace.
Mountain Peak now returns from 199 days off the track and he has gone well fresh before, so the absence is no concern. He also comes back with his stable having been in red-hot form recently.
An inside draw in stall two isn't always ideal, but Mountain Peak has plenty of pace and could easily make all the running down the middle.
14:45 – Chief Little Rock @ 11/10
The Blue Riband Trial (2.45) is the feature event on the card and there are some Derby hopefuls among the six runners. However, it might go to one of the two without an entry in the big one because CHIEF LITTLE ROCK appears to have the strongest form and the Irish Derby entrant will improve for 1m2f.
The lightly raced three-year-old improved with every run last season and followed his second in the Group 2 Beresford Stakes at the Curragh in September with another good runner-up effort at Newmarket in Autumn Stakes when he was beaten only by subsequent Group 1 winner Ancient Wisdom.
There is nothing of that class in this line up and Chief Little Rock finished four places ahead of one of his main rivals in this race, Arabic Legend, when taking that second at Newmarket on his last start.
This brother to 1m4f Royal Ascot winner Okita Soushi looks certain to relish this stiffer test of stamina and he sets a clear standard. It will be a surprise if he can't land this race en route to better things.
15:20 – Ziggy @ 3/1
The City & Suburban Handicap (3.20) is traditionally one of the bigger betting races on this day, but only seven runners have been declared this year and it might not be as competitive as it often turns out to be.
It's therefore worth backing the lightly raced six-year-old, ZIGGY, who has dropped to the same mark as when last successful at Kempton in November 2022 and might be capable of taking full advantage.
Ziggy has run only twice since that last win and both of those starts came in January last year. He split useful pair Forest Of Dean and Harrovian when second at Newcastle two outings ago and then found Pride Of America too good at Kempton last time. That rival went on to contest Listed races last year.
Those runs came on the all-weather, but he has won twice on turf and was a winner on his seasonal reappearance in 2022 following a 224-day hiatus. He can clearly go well fresh, so the 451-day absence isn't a huge concern here and he is well handicapped if he can reproduce his best form.
