1.30 Chepstow - EYE OF THE WATER @ 5/2

Ron Harris does well with his runners at Chepstow and the local trainer can strike again with EYE OF THE WATER in the opening mile handicap (1.30).

The seven-year-old has won two of his last five starts and seems equally effective on turf and all-weather.

He has returned to this surface with two good runs at Bath recently and his latest victory at the track was a superb effort as he pulled hard but still finished off his race well.

Furthermore, the runner-up, Havana Goldrush, tried to bite Eye Of The Water as he went past inside the final furlong and my selection showed a good attitude to keep his mind on the job.

He has gone up only 3lb for that narrow success but should be capable of finding the progress required to record another win, especially if he can settle better in the early stages of the race.

4.25 Chepstow - SILVER NIGHTFALL @ 4/1

The Monmouthshire Cup Fillies' Handicap (4.25) at Chepstow provides a good opportunity for SILVER NIGHTFALL to follow up her recent handicap win at Newcastle off just a 3lb higher mark.

The Gay Kelleway-trained filly travelled powerfully through that contest and came through with a strong late run to win going away by a length and a quarter, despite hanging left.

That came under crack apprentice Billy Loughnane, who claimed 3lb, but Alec Voikhansky is a decent substitute and he is able to take 5lb off Silver Nightfall’s back.

That means she will, in effect, race off a mark just 1lb higher than for her Newcastle win and she is well treated.

She was second on her debut at Yarmouth last year on turf, which proves she has no problem with the surface, and there could be more to come from her on just her seventh career start.

8.05 Wetherby - Iron Sheriff @ 9/4

IRON SHERIFF is another last-time-out Newcastle winner who is returning to the turf and he can follow up in the first division of the Join Racing TV Now Handicap (8.05) at Wetherby.

The selection was having his first start beyond a mile since last September in that 1m2f handicap and went through the race with ease before scoring by five and a half lengths.

He returns to a mile here, but travelled like a class act last time and that suggests he will be able to cope with the sharper test.

He evidently stays the trip well too, so should finish.

Iron Sheriff is up 7lb, but rider Jonny Peate is able to claim 2lb more than on his last start and that might help.

The return to turf also won’t be a problem as Iron Sheriff has won twice on grass.

8.20 Sandown - Gert Lush @ 7/2

The Tudor Fillies' Handicap (8.20) closes the card at Sandown and GERT LUSH looks capable of building on her low-key reappearance at Bath under champion jockey William Buick.

Gert Lush was progressing well at the backend of last season, following her victory at Goodwood with a solid second at Ffos Las and it’s not difficult to ignore her Bath return.

That was her first outing since last September and she was easy to back on course.

The market pointed to her being in need of the run and she shaped like she would improve.

She trailed in eight and three-quarter lengths behind in seventh, but should come on for the run and remains fairly treated off a mark just 2lb higher than when recording her last success.
