It's back down to earth on Sunday after the Grand National but there is a decent card to enjoy at Plumpton and the Racing Post's Gary Savage has found some runners who should go well.
2.05 Plumpton - Fortune Forever @ 3/1
3.15 Plumpton - For Gina @ 10/1
3.50 Plumpton - Minella Buster @ 15/2
The field size shouldn't distract punters here, as this is a race that is severely lacking in depth and Fergal O'Brien's lightly raced FORTUNE FOREVER may need only to repeat her last run to prevail.
That was her first outing over three miles and having proved she stays the trip on soft ground that day, she should improve for trying it on a decent surface.
Although her effort last time came in a mares race, it was full of horses with potential from good stables and she was unlucky to bump into another improver who raced off a lowly mark.
There looks to be nothing of a similar caste in this contest, and with improvement likely in only her sixth hurdles start she can enhance her trainer's very impressive six-from-14 strike rate at the course.
A dry few days and warm weather look to have contributed to genuine good ground at Plumpton, with selective watering even taking place, so it's time to take the hint and here as much as anywhere horses who like a faster surface should have too much speed for most mudlovers.
FOR GINA fits the bill nicely as her record on good ground is a win, two second places and two thirds from six runs. Although she underperformed in her one start here, that was after a break on good to soft ground in January and conditions will be very different today.
She has fine form at Fakenham, another tight circuit, which includes a comfortable win in February, and her runner-up effort last time took her record in handicaps to 32121412.
She was nabbed late on at Huntingdon last time, and with more emphasis on speed here, as well as Dylan Whelan again taking off a very useful 7lb, she may be able to kick away off the home turn and stay there.
Similar comments apply to Emma Lavelle's eight-year-old gelding MINELLA BUSTER who has two wins, two seconds and two third places in six runs on good ground, which includes a win and a third over hurdles at Plumpton.
He has taken well to chasing at around today's trip and although he hasn't run for a while that shouldn't be too much of a negative as he has gone very well fresh in the past.
His rules chase debut came after a break of 218 days, when he waltzed away with a Class 4 at Kempton in October 2022. He has had only five starts since then, with a mixed record it's fair to say, but he looked to have retained his ability on his most recent start.
That came after 153 days off when he just lost out in a tight tussle at Stratford despite being keen early.
He would probably have won that day with the benefit of today's jockey Joe Anderson's 5lb claim, and it's worth noting that Anderson and Lavelle teamed up for a winner at the last meeting here.
With his good course record and the ground turning in his favour his stable are likely to have him cherry ripe for this.
