Horse Racing betting tips: Cash in and take Coup to strike De Gold at Sedgefield

There are three meetings in Britain and Ireland on this relatively quiet November Tuesday and Racing Post tipster Graeme Rodway gives his two best bets on the card at Sedgefield.

Graeme Rodway's tips:

2.20 Sedgefield - Coup De Gold @ 12/1
2.50 Sedgefield - Ashjan @ 12/1

2.20 Sedgefield - Coup De Gold @ 12/1

The 2m1f handicap hurdle (2.20) is one of the more competitive races on the Sedgefield card and COUP DE GOLD might be capable of springing a surprise off a career-low hurdles mark.

Coup De Gold has been off the track for 156 days, but he was in good form over the summer and lost out by only three-and-a-quarter lengths when fourth at Hexham on his last run in June.

That came on good ground, but Coup De Gold’s two highest Racing Post Ratings were achieved on going with soft in the description and he twice ran well on soft and heavy at this course in the spring. He is now 6lb lower than for the last of those runs, a close third in April.

Coup De Gold has a big chance if he can repeat that form and he has run well under jockey Peter Kavanagh before. Kavanagh is back on board here and his 3lb allowance is a positive.

The selection has a modest strike-rate, but this is an equally weak race and Coup De Gold probably won’t get many better chances to get his head back in front. He is worth chancing.

Graeme Rodway's tip:

Coup De Gold @ 12/1 - 1pt win

2.50 Sedgefield - Ashjan @ 12/1

The 2m31/2f handicap chase (2.50) is the other good betting race on the card and the one to be on is ASHJAN, who appears to be on his way back to form and looks very well handicapped.

The Sandy Forster-trained 10-year-old is racing off a mark of 74, which is a career-low rating over fences, and ran his best race for a long time on his seasonal return this month.

Ashjan was returning from 161 days off the track on that occasion over hurdles at Kelso and moved through nicely into fourth in the closing stages. He was beaten more than 16 lengths by the winner, but was just two-and-a-half lengths behind the second, and that was a good run.

The selection has won twice over fences at Sedgefield and evidently likes the track. It might therefore be significant that Forster brings Ashjan back here just 17 days after that promising run at Kelso and Patrick Wadge is an eyecatching booking. He is value for his 3lb allowance.

Forster is 1-19 when teaming up with the rider, but a further six of those mounts finished second and two were third. That is enough to convince me that today can be Ashjan’s day, especially now that he has returned to chasing. His two highest RPRs have come over fences.

Graeme Rodway's tip:

Ashjan @ 12/1 - 1pt win
