The Race To A Cure For Mnd EBF Fillies' Restricted Novice Stakes (3.45) kicks off the action on ITV4 and it looks like a good opportunity for Mauna Loa to break her duck.
The daughter of Dark Angel showed promise when fourth on her debut at Thirsk and, although she was a beaten 5/4 favourite at Carlisle last time, she still ran a cracker.
They went a strong pace in that 5f maiden for fillies and Mauna Loa struggled to go the gallop. She was outpaced after two furlongs, but rattled home to lose out by only a neck.
She shaped like she was in need of a step up in trip that day and the extra furlong here on a similarly stiff track should bring out the best in Mauna Loa. Her dam stayed as far as 1m4f.
Graeme Rodway’s tip:
The Sunday Series Handicap (4.15) is a wide-open contest and Eeetee might be capable of bouncing back from a below-par run at Beverley now that he is dropped back in distance.
The David O’Meara-trained gelding was trying 1m4f for the first time on that occasion at one of the stiffest tracks in Britain and he simply didn’t stay the trip. He was still beaten only three lengths by the winner Dubai Leader and that was after finding trouble in running.
Eeetee had looked good on his previous start over this 1m2f trip at Redcar, when he came from a long way behind and overcame trouble in running to win going away by a length and three-quarters. He recorded a good time that day and a reproduction back at 1m2f might do it.
He is drawn widest, but will be dropped in behind and has plenty more to offer at this trip.
Graeme Rodway’s tip:
The Sunday Series Pontefract Cup Handicap (5.15) is a cracking staying contest and it provides a good chance for Blow Your Horn to complete a hat-trick in handicap company.
The six-year-old did well to come from off the pace in a modestly run race to win at Doncaster two runs ago and looked even better when back up in trip at Beverley last time.
Blow Your Horn was well suited by the way that race panned out as it was run at a strong gallop and he weaved his way through to win going away by three-quarters of a length.
He is up another 4lb for that win and now runs off 6lb higher than for the first of those victories at Doncaster, but a mark of 76 isn’t beyond him on his best form. He has won from as high as 83 in the past and may still be a step ahead of the handicapper off this BHA rating.
Graeme Rodway’s tip:
Blow Your Horn @ 5/2 - 1pt win
