There are two flat meetings in Britain on Sunday at Wetherby and Southwell and plenty of competitive races among them.

3.15 Southwell - How Impressive @ 4/1
5.30 Wetherby - Harry Magnus @ 20/1
5.45 Southwell - Wheels Of Fire @ 10/1
3.15 Southwell - How Impressive @ 4/1
The key to this contest could well be one run over course and distance in early April, where How Impressive was collared late on by an in-form rival, despite running with the choke out for much of the contest.
Not far behind him that day were the reopposing Jimmy Speaking and Ten Commitments, but the way that How Impressive finished off his race despite going freely makes the chances of that pair turning the tables look unlikely on Sunday.
After wearing cheekpieces and a visor for most of his career, blinkers are now tried, and that aid, together with the return to the saddle of Oisin Murphy, who is three from six on the gelding, makes Hugo Palmer's seven-time winner look the one to beat in this field.
5.30 Wetherby - Harry Magnus @ 20/1
Given a rating of 84 after taking a 3yo handicap at Newmarket in April 2023, this ex-Charlie Hills five-year-old has really struggled since, but after a wind operation there were definite signs last time that enough ability remains to make him a player in this Class 6.
He struggled in his final runs for Hills, and the switch to Brittain saw six poor runs during 2024 and the beginning of 2025, before the green shoots witnessed after a break last time.
Although only a Class 6 at Chelmsford, it was on Good Friday and a valuable race for the grade which resulted in a fiercely competitive affair, with Ryan Moore and Tom Marquand fighting out the finish.
There was no disgrace in being beaten three and a half lengths that day, and it's encouraging that the fifth home, Thomas Equinas, was only narrowly denied next time.
Fast ground suits the gelding well, and if he has regained any confidence from the wind operation it should show up in this lowly contest.
5.45 Southwell - Wheels Of Fire @ 10/1
One of the highlights of a tremendous fixture at Southwell is this Class 3 six-furlong sprint handicap for three-year-olds, which can go the way of Richard Hannon's consistent colt.
A smart two-year-old career on turf and synthetics, saw the son of Mehmas run well on all five of his starts, winning his novice on the Lingfield Polytrack before running too keen in his first handicap.
He returned this season in a hot handicap at Kempton, with connections presumably believing he had trained on okay as he was sent off joint-favourite where he ran a race full of promise.
He was buffeted at the start and trapped wide coming into the straight, but, despite this, he looked likely to challenge entering the latter stages before his early troubles and race fitness saw him allowed to come home in his own time.
That was a strong race, and as a half-brother to Grant Wood, who continues to improve at the age of six, there is every chance we will see an improved showing in this valuable contest
