14:30 Galway - Bardenstown Lad @ 16/1

Gavin Cromwell has done an excellent job in nursing BARDENSTOWN LAD back to form and the hat-trick could beckon in the Listed 2m6f handicap hurdle.

Bardenstown Lad was third in the 2022 Albert Bartlett for John McConnell, but never failed to reproduce that effort for the trainer and joined Cromwell with questions to answer.

He took a few runs for his new yard to hit full stride but has landed a staying chase and staying hurdle on his last two outings off much-reduced ratings.

The first victory, in a Kilbeggan handicap hurdle, seemingly came out of the blue given his market weakness, and a 7lb rise for that shouldn't inconvenience him with good claimer Conor Stone-Walsh taking 5lb off on his return to the smaller obstacles.

This is a deeper contest but we know he has the class.

15:40 Galway - Newtown Duke @ 13/8

Dermot Weld has endured a surprisingly quiet week at Galway, but NEWTOWN DUKE has an excellent chance of getting him back among the winners in the extended mile maiden.

Newtown Duke has been a late developer as he only debuted in the July of his three-year-old campaign, but that was a good effort in second behind a filly rated in the 90s who was proven at a much higher level.

There surely won't be anything of the winner's calibre here and normal improvement should make Newtown Duke tough to beat, while his pedigree stands out as a brother to the yard's former smart performer Duke De Sessa. That horse is now contesting Group 1s in Australia.

16:15 Galway - Elzem @ 9/4

The pedigree of ELZEM also stands out as he is a brother to 2020 Matron Stakes heroine Champers Elysees. The 7f nursery looks a great spot for him.

Elzem has posted improved RPRs with every run and seems to have an excellent attitude.

He battled all the way to the line when beaten a head by a well-regarded filly in a warm 6f race at Naas last time, and seems a certainty to be seen to better effect over an extra furlong here.

Joseph O'Brien's horses have been running excellently at Galway this week and Elzem, who loves to front-run, has landed a decent draw in stall two. He looks the type to continue progressing.
