Grade 1 racing returns to Sandown on Saturday afternoon with a cracking renewal of the Tingle Creek on a stacked seven-race card.
Racing Post tipster Phill Anderson is on hand to run you through his best bets from the day’s action at the Esher track.
14:25 Sandown - Willmount @ 9/4
15:00 Sandown - Edwardstone @ 8/1
15:35 Sandown - Tommie Beau @ 8/1
14:25 Sandown - Willmount @ 9/4
Nicky Henderson has a cracking record in the 14:25 Handicap Hurdle on the card having won four renewals since his success with Tasheba back in 2009.
He appears capable of gaining his first renewal since 2016 with WILLMOUNT, who has looked like a horse going places in the last few years.
This Blue Bresil gelding followed up his point win with back-to-back bumper successes for Neil Mulholland, while his yard debut for Henderson couldn’t have been much more impressive when landing a Newbury novice last season.
His run in the Challow is excusable having lost a shoe in that contest and he looks leniently treated from a mark of 130 for his return to action here.
15:00 Sandown - Edwardstone @ 8/1
EDWARDSTONE has come off second best to Jonbon on several occasions, including in this race last year, but if the eight runners all line up, he could be where the each-way value lies.
Alan King’s stable star ran a cracker behind Jonbon on his reappearance at Cheltenham, just fading in the closing stages and giving the impression that he would be better for that outing, as was the case last season.
One of his best efforts came in last year’s renewal of the Tingle Creek when only losing out by two lengths and he’s won two Grade 1 races at this venue previously. The only horses to have finished in front of him at Sandown have been Jonbon and El Fabiolo down the years.
That form is far superior to that of all bar one of his rivals and the rain in the forecast is also in his favour, as he proved he’s highly effective on heavy going at Newbury last season.
There’s a compelling argument to say he should be second favourite for this race and it’s hard to see him out of the first three home with a clear round of jumping.
15:35 Sandown - Tommie Beau @ 8/1
The finale on the card is a good renewal of the London National and it’s a slight surprise to see that TOMMIE BEAU isn’t vying for favouritism.
He was in the process of running a belter on his Cross Country debut at Cheltenham last month before taking the wrong course in the closing stages and he gives the impression that the unique test that Sandown’s chase track holds will play to his strengths.
This nine-year-old is versatile with regards to ground conditions so any rain that arrives overnight won’t bother him, while his handicap mark has been left alone after the Cheltenham mishap.
