There are six bet365 sponsored races at Sandown on Friday and Robbie Wilders has provided his selections from an exciting Flat racing card.
13:50 - Cracking Gold 5/1
14:25 - Okeechobee 3/1
15:35 – War Rooms 7/1
13:50 - Cracking Gold 5/1
There are any number of well-handicapped three-year-olds who are lining up for the bet365 Esher Cup Handicap but a chance is taken on CRACKING GOLD for Clive Cox, who landed this in 2013 with a horse who subsequently proved himself in Group company.
Cracking Gold has enjoyed a good year. He landed his maiden in good style on his debut before bolting up under a penalty in a novice.
While Cracking Gold lost his unbeaten record on his handicap debut in March last time, it was undoubtedly a good effort in defeat. He was a little too keen early and only lost out by a neck to a well-ridden winner, keeping on nicely but ultimately given a little too much to do.
Cracking Gold is related to several big improvers at three and can take the next step up the ladder with an extra furlong sure to suit.
14:25 - Okeechobee 3/1
There are trip concerns for early market leaders Desert Hero and Israr in the 1m2f bet365 Gordon Richards Stakes.
Desert Hero's best effort came in the St Leger and may find this too sharp first time out, while Israr is a 1m4f horse and didn't show much sparkle on his comeback in Doha 69 days ago. Take a chance on OKEECHOBEE instead.
He represents the in-form Harry Charlton yard and could easily go off favourite with Ryan Moore booked for the mount.
Okeechobee was a big improver at three but missed his four-year-old campaign through injury. However, he showed the ability still remains when a promising second to Group 1 winner Dubai Honour in the Magnolia Stakes 25 days ago.
Expected to come on for that return from 550 days off the track, this talented prospect can get the job done before stepping up in class.
15:35 – War Rooms 7/1
Arabian Crown is a short price for the bet365 Classic Trial and is there to be taken on, with Charlie Appleby not having a great record in this contest and responsible for one with a similar profile who was beaten in the Nell Gwyn last week.
The one to oppose him with is WAR ROOMS, who looks a certainty to benefit for an extra three furlongs.
An impressive 7f maiden winner at Doncaster last July, War Rooms was then sent off favourite for the Flying Scotsman Stakes over course and distance but was one of the first off the bridle. The fact he kept on so well for third was encouraging and that form is working out quite well.
Open to further improvement at three, the son of Churchill makes significantly more appeal at the prices than Arabian Crown.
