Salvator Mundi Age

Salvator Mundi is a five-year-old gelding, now into his third season racing after debuting at Auteuil in April 2023.

Salvator Mundi Weight

Salvator Mundi is expected to line-up in the opening Supreme Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, where he will carry 11st 7lb.

Salvator Mundi Record

On his debut in April 2023, Salvator Mundi was second behind the subsequently unbeaten Sir Gino, who has since joined Nicky Henderson's yard.

Salvator Mundi, meanwhile, debuted for trainer Mullins in the Triumph Hurdle last March, where he finished sixth as stablemate Majborough won.

This season, Salvator Mundi has won both starts in Ireland, most recently the Grade 2 Moscow Flyer Novices' Hurdle at Punchestown in January under Townend.

Salvator Mundi Next Race

Salvator Mundi's next start is expected to come in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival on Tuesday, 11th March. He is one of the favourites to give trainer Mullins an eighth career success in the race.

Salvator Mundi Owner and Cost

Salvator Mundi was originally bought at the Auctav.com August NH Sale 2022 by NBB Racing for €70,000.

He went on to race once for French-based trainer David Cottin before being bought by the Donnelly operation for an unspecified fee.

Salvator Mundi Trainer

Salvator Mundi is trained by Willie Mullins at his base in Closutton, Co Carlow. Mullins is currently the champion trainer in both Britain and Ireland after landing the British crown for the first time last spring.

He has trained a record 103 Cheltenham Festival winners, more than any other trainer before him.

Salvator Mundi Official Rating

With just two runs outside of juvenile company over hurdles, Salvator Mundi has not yet been given an official rating.

His best Racing Post Racing (RPR) was 146, achieved in his maiden hurdle success at Tipperary in May 2024.

Salvator Mundi Prize Money

To date, Salvator Mundi has bagged just under £40,000 in prize money for his connections.

If he wins the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham he will instantly treble that haul, with over £84,000 on offer to the winner in the Cotswolds.

Salvator Mundi News

Though he is two-from-two this season in Irish novice races, including the Grade 2 Moscow Flyer which the likes of Vautour and Douvan won for Mullins before going on to Supreme Novices' glory at Cheltenham, questions have been asked of Salvator Mundi.

In that Punchestown race, he raced a bit too freely and his jumping was not always fluent. At the business end of the race, however, Townend's partner picked up the running and cleared away from stablemate Kel Histoire to win well.

Connections are confident that the increased pace of championship race at Cheltenham will see him in a better light, but there do appear to be some chinks in his armour for his rivals to aim at.

The Punchestown run was his first since May, when he won by 62 lengths at Tipperary, leaving Townend optimistic that he'll come forward significantly for the outing as well as racing on less tacky ground.

"He was fresh and it was messy, so I would say it was going to be hard to be impressive. We know he can jump but he didn't jump well because I couldn’t let him," said Townend.

"It's hard to be impressive on that ground, but at least he won. He'll have to build on it, but I think he will. He has gears and on that ground it's hard to use them to the best effect."
