Wednesday's Punchestown Horse Racing Betting Tips and Odds

16:15 Punchestown - High Class Hero @ 10/1
17:25 Punchestown - Gentlemansgame @
50/1
18:00 Punchestown - Let’s Go Champ @
9/2

16:15 Punchestown - High Class Hero @ 10/1

The first Grade 1 at Punchestown on Wednesday is the 3m novice hurdle (16:15) and High Class Hero looks the one to be on.

The selections’s stablemate Dancing City will be favourite after a brilliant performance in the Sefton at Aintree, but this will be his fourth Grade 1 in less than three months and that asks plenty of a novice. He will need to be hardy to deal with that.

Albert Bartlett winner Stellar Story is the obvious alternative as he holds Dancing City on that form. However, the Albert Bartlett form is muddling as the first three were in those positions throughout.

High Class Hero and Dancing City were sent off at similar odds at Cheltenham but my selection was a held-up last and simply in the wrong place. He was unable to make any inroads and Patrick Mullins made the right call in pulling him up.

Before that, High Class Hero was unbeaten in five starts under rules. He should not be dismissed, particularly as he is arriving fresh.

17:25 Punchestown - Gentlemansgame @ 50/1

The Punchestown Gold Cup (17:25) is the main attraction on Wednesday’s card and I’m against Galopin Des Champs. He was turned over in this last season at a similarly short price. This field might be even better.

At the prices, the bet is Gentemansgame. The lightly raced eight-year-old suffered a setback after his impressive victory over Bravemansgame in the Charlie Hall at Wetherby in November.

That was only his third chase start, and I get the impression Mouse Morris has been working back from his race to enable him to gather more experience at the highest level.

He was pulled up in the Gold Cup after four months off but built on that when fifth in the Bowl. Rachael Blackmore is riding him over the Henry de Bromhead-trained Journey With Me and that is interesting, while her mount has Punchestown Festival Grade 1 form figures of 32.

He ran a cracker behind Klassical Dream in the Champion Stayers Hurdle here in 2022 (youngest horse in the field that day) the last time Blackmore was aboard. There is further progress in him.

18:00 Punchestown - Let’s Go Champ @ 9/2

Blackmore has another noteworthy ride with the De Bromhead-trained Let’s Go Champ, who contests the 2m4½f handicap chase (18:00).

Let’s Go Champ is also lightly raced with only three starts over fences. This time last year he was a huge eyecatcher in a handicap hurdle here.

There is little doubt he would have given the well-treated Kilbeg King a real race if he hadn’t suffered such bad interference in the straight.

The fact the selection kept on so well to take second when in the clear was commendable. Every start this term, Let’s Go Champ has improved his Racing Post Rating (chased home the smart Embassy Gardens two starts ago).

Off an opening mark of 131, and with better ground to suit, there is lots to like.
