Five runners are set to face the starter ahead of the 36,500 euros Grade 3 2m3f Novice Chase at Punchestown (12:55) on Sunday afternoon, and, with the front two in the market not entirely convincing, an each-way bet on either Farren Glory or Ifiwerearichman was considered with the vote going to Farren Glory, one of three runners representing Gordon Elliott, with Danny Gilligan in the saddle.

Willie Mullins has won two of the seven runnings since 2018 through Invitation Only (2018) and Carefully Selected (2020), and his 2024 representative Lecky Watson made a winning chasing debut at Naas last month, but he will need to improve on the bare form to follow up at cramped odds.

Gordon Elliott won this race through Envoi Allen in 2021, and the likely second-favourite Down Memory Lane is the one the market favours from his three runners. He sets the form standard according to Racing Post Ratings (RPRs) and possibly deserves another chance to shine racing right-handed over fences. He is dropping in class following his third in Sandown's Grade 1 Henry VIII Novices' Chase in December, but much better was expected in Esher, and a watching brief is advisable after that modest jumping display.

Down Memory Lane's stablemate Search For Glory is a very capable horse, but this extended 2m3f trip seems on the short side for an animal that stays so well, and, Farren Glory, the other Elliott inmate in the field is stepping up in trip over fences and that could be the key to this contest.

The selection went 4-9 over hurdles from 2m to an extended 2m3f on soft and heavy ground, including a Grade 1 success at Fairyhouse. He is 1-3 over fences, improving to finish second in Grade 2 company over 2m on soft ground on this course in November.

Following a small break, he is considered capable of taking his form to a new level over this intermediate trip over fences, hence the each-way interest.

Paul Nolan's representative Ifiwerearichman improved to win going away on his second start over regulation fences over 2m on yielding ground on this course in December, and double-figure odds were tempting, but the testing ground is a slight concern.

14:25 Punchestown – Kel Histoire @ 3/1

Six runners are set to go to post for the Grade 2 extended 2m Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle (14:25).

Willie Mullins is 6-16 in the past 10 runnings since 2015, including through equine luminaries such as Douvan (2015) and Min (2016). The market favours Salvator Mundi from his two 2024 representatives, but there could be some profit to be had in siding with Kel Histoire each-way instead, and hoping that he at least reaches the first two.

Salvator Mundi is 1-3 over hurdles and sets the form standard returning from a 242-day break, but Kel Histoire went 1-1 at Cork on his debut over hurdles in December, and the clock suggests he has the ability to give his odds-on stablemate a good race, if progressing from the initial experience.

15:25 Punchestown – Bright Legend @ 4/1

Finally, Denis Hogan and the 7lb-claiming jockey J H Williamson combine through Bright Legend in the concluding extended 2m4f handicap hurdle (15:25), and the case for siding with this improving five-year-old gelding is a straightforward one.

The selection is dropping in class after reaching a close second of nine in a Listed 2m handicap hurdle on yielding to soft ground at Limerick 14 days ago, and he is considered capable of coping with the subsequent 2lb rise, if truly seeing out this longer trip.
