There's a Sunday Series meeting at Pontefract with plenty of competitive fare to get stuck into and the Racing Post's Gary Savage offers his three best selections for the day's action.
4.15 Pontefract - The Cookstown Cafu - 13/2
4.45 Pontefract - Tiger Bay - 40/1
5.45 Pontefract - Highwaygrey - 6/1
4.15 Pontefract - The Cookstown Cafu - 13/2
Plenty of in-form horses in this Class 5, with Zozimus in particular having fair claims of following up his decisive and long overdue course and distance win last time.
Everything went right for him that day in a small field, however, and he'll need a lot of luck from stall 1 in today's much larger field.
The runner-up that day, Casilli, has good claims of turning the tables on this third start of the season, but again, her come-from-behind style is not ideal for this course.
One who has proven he is suited to this track and trip is Kevin Ryan's The Cookstown Cafu, who has two wins from two starts at today's distance here.
He has yet to strike this season, but that is reflected in his mark and he races today off 6lb lower than his last winning mark.
Conditions were officially good, although the going stick was 8.1 for that last win, the same as it was on Saturday morning, and his very good run at York last time came on good to firm ground.
That was a Class 4 over seven furlongs, the drop in class and step up in trip should suit him ideally and Rowan Scott, who rode him for his last two wins, is back in the saddle.
4.45 Pontefract - Tiger Bay - 40/1
This Listed contest has seen some upsets in recent years, and with doubts about almost all of the horses I fancy the complete outsider to at least nab a place.
Rage Of Bamby is the most solid of those at the head of the market, and will be hard to beat if she can repeat her win in a York handicap last time.
She has an in-and-out profile though, and hasn't yet placed in four attempts at Listed level, while joint favourite Adaay In Devon would definitely prefer some give underfoot.
There are plenty of each-way alternatives, but most of them are bang out of form, and/or also wanting different ground conditions, with Tiger Bay just about the only filly in form.
Henry Candy showed what he can do with seemingly limited four-year-old fillies in a similar contest at Salisbury on Wednesday.
That filly, High Spirited, was rated 77 and had achieved RPRs in the low 80s in her three most recent starts, before beating fillies rated up to 25lb her superior.
Tiger Bay is rated 78 and has run to RPRs of 84, 82 and 86 in her last three starts and has 26lb to find on the top two in the markets.
She may be ridden to place, and that may be as close as she can get, but with her solid profile and conditions to suit she looks worth an each-way punt.
5.45 Pontefract - Highwaygrey - 6/1
With three-year-olds Temple City and See That Storm taking a lot of the market there should be some value further down and everything is perfect for Tim Easterby's Highwaygrey.
His victory over course and distance in July was his fifth at the track from 13 starts. He has also been second three times and third three times so it's fair to say he loves it here.
Although up 7lb for that win and a narrow second last time, his rating is still manageable based on plenty of form and he has four wins at Class 4 level.
With David Allan returning, a ninth success for the partnership seems perfectly possible.
