4.17 Perth – Half Shot @
13/2

2.32 Perth – Belle Of Annandale @ 12/1

You couldn’t consider backing Belle Of Annandale on what we’ve seen of late but there are reasons to believe she can bounce back in the 0-110 handicap hurdle.

Brian Hughes, who guided her to success over course and distance when switched to hurdles last August, is seemingly happy to keep the ride despite failing to get a tune out of her last time.

That disappointment came on soft ground and returning to a quicker surface should see her in a better light here.

The fitting of cheekpieces could contribute to a better showing too.

She was a good second on the Flat when blinkers first went on in 2022 and produced a personal best over hurdles when connections reached for a visor a few runs ago.

Adrian Keatley has his yard in good nick - he’s had a few winners of late including a Listed success at Chantilly last weekend.

Expect Belle Of Annandale to adopt a good stalking position behind the likes of Inferno Sacree, Darkest Day and Solway Molly before coming home well.

3.07 Perth – God’s Own Getaway @ 9/4

Dan Skelton sends two runners to Perth in a bid to improve his 31 percent strike-rate at the track and God’s Own Getaway is of particular interest in the £20,000 Perth Silver Cup.

He showed only minor promise over hurdles (didn’t offer much in two bumpers) but is a tad unlucky not to be unbeaten in three runs over the larger obstacles - wins at Southwell and Market Rasen came either side of being collared late at Warwick, when trading at 1.14.

The O’Neill-trained/J P McManus-owned mare who beat him there completed a hat-trick next time.

One of God's Own Getaway's main assets is his jumping and that will stand him in good stead for this rise in grade.

The way he travels through his races bodes well on that front too and he should be well equipped to cope in the likely event this gets tactical.

In short, he’s a chaser on the up and should be backed accordingly.

4.17 Perth – Half Shot @ 13/2

There is no denying Half Shot has an in and out profile but I’m backing him to be on a going day in the final chase contest at 4.17.

We’ll probably know our fate early as he’s most effective when getting into a good rhythm at or near the head of affairs, but he hasn’t been ridden that way of late.

He really caught the eye finishing off to good effect for fourth at Ayr in April before reverting to hurdles was unlikely to end well last time (was again ridden with restraint).

Successful on his sole visit to Perth and back on the same mark as when beating Inis Oirr, who won by a wide margin two runs later and fell when sent off just 10/1 for the Scottish Grand National, by seven lengths at Musselburgh in November, he’s worth chancing under 5lb claimer Dylan Johnston.

The pair went down by just a head when teaming up for the only time last season.
