Nick Rockett Age

A son of 2005 Derby runner-up Walk In the Park, Nick Rockett was born on 18th May 2017 and is eight years old.

His debut came as a four-year-old when he won a point-to-point at Curraghmore in October 2021.

Nick Rockett Record

Nick Rockett has run 13 times in his career. The first of those was that point-to-point victory at Curraghmore, but it was 10 or so months later that he made his rules debut, finishing fourth at Fairyhouse in December 2022.

He then recorded three successive victories between February and April 2023.

After a good showing on his chasing debut in December 2023, he added a win over the bigger obstacles to those he'd accrued in pointers, bumpers and hurdles by scoring at Fairyhouse on New Year's Day 2024.

A second place in a Grade 2 the following month at Navan seemed to get him noticed and he next went to the Irish National, finishing seventh.

Nick Rockett followed that up with a third on his sole run to date on UK soil, the 2024 bet365 Gold Cup, and was then fourth in a Listed contest at Leopardstown over Christmas.

Wins in the Thyestes and Bobbyjo firmly put him in the Grand National picture. He went off at 33/1 under Patrick Mullins and travelled strongly throughout the race. After jumping two-out in the lead, he kept on to record a career-defining success.

Nick Rockett Next Race

It's likely that the eight-year-old will be given a well deserved rest after his heroic Grand National performance.

He is likely to return at some point in December where his seasonal target may well be a crack at the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Nick Rockett Owner and Cost

The horse runs in the colours of Stewart and Sadie Andrew, the latter of whom died in December 2022 but managed to see him run in his debut bumper just five days before she passed.

Following their Aintree success, Stewart Andrew said: "Nick Rockett wasn’t my horse, it was my wife’s horse. This a class horse, he's got the heart of a lion."

Nick Rockett Trainer

It will be no surprise to either casual fans or racing fanatics that this improving gelding is part of Willie Mullins' always impressive string.

The Closutton maestro remains the master of the handling game over the obstacles and demonstrated his prowess again by equalling his 2022 record of saddling 10 winners at the recent Cheltenham Festival.

Nick Rockett Official Rating

Classy over both hurdles and fences, he achieved his rating of 146 over the smaller obstacles following a Grade 2 win at Fairyhouse.

Extremely progressive over fences, his bet365 Gold Cup third came off a mark of 147 before winning the Grand National from a lofty rating of 163.

Nick Rockett Prize Money

Following his Grand National success, Nick Rockett is has now accumulated £641,133 in prize money for connections.

Nick Rockett News

Mullins was delighted with the gelding's showing after his January win at Gowran Park, his 10th victory in Thyestes Handicap, and made no secret of his priority being a go at the Grand National.

Jockey Paul Townend immediately said the aim would be to run him in a National. However, there was uncertainty over whether it would be at Aintree or the Irish equivalent, where he finished seventh last season.

Aintree was confirmed the following month as he edged last year's Irish National hero Intense Raffles to justify favouritism by taking the Bobbyjo Chase at Fairyhouse.

At the forefront of a unprecedented Grand National 1-2-3-5 for Mullins, Nick Rockett has provided his handler with a major chance of landing the UK Trainers' Championship for a second successive season.
