The Boyne Hurdle is the feature race on Sunday afternoon and it’s a race that often throws up a smart stayer; stamina will be a key factor on what is set to be testing ground this year.

This year’s renewal looks competitive but one that stands out is Minella Indo. There’s no doubt that Henry de Bromhead’s charge will be using this as a prep for bigger things, most notably the Grand National at the beginning of April but Tiger Roll landed this contest back in 2019 in a similar scenario, defying an SP of 25/1 in the process.

Minella Indo hasn’t been seen over timber for nearly six years but he wouldn’t need to match his recent chase form to still be a major factor in this field and the testing conditions should really help him bring this veteran’s stamina into play.

The handicap hurdle on Sunday’s card doesn’t have a lot of depth and the one that might be capable of taking advantage is The Miracle Man.

His career form figures aren’t all that encouraging but he hasn’t taken to the larger obstacles on his last couple of runs in beginners’ company and he was a winner when last seen in this sphere in a handicap hurdle at Sligo.

A 7lb rise looks manageable for that all-the-way success given that he pulled a fair way clear with a well handicapped rival and perhaps most interestingly, there’s plenty of stamina on the dam’s side of his pedigree, so there’s potentially more to come at this sort of trip.

He needs to prove himself in the conditions but he’s still got plenty of potential on just his seventh start over timber and there could be more to come for relatively new connections.

Salmanino chased home re-opposing Verdant Place over this course and distance two starts ago and there are a few reasons to think he might be able to reverse that form in this contest.

Liz Doyle’s charge is now 5lb better off with his re-opposing rival for a one-and-a-half-length defeat and he was in the process of running another massive race before coming down late at Punchestown last month.

Softer conditions this time around will be right up his street and given that he’s well treated on his best efforts, he should be firmly in the mix here with a clear round of jumping.
