Five meetings are scheduled in total, a good mix of both Flat and National Hunt, including a competitive seven-race card from Newmarket.
The biggest fields of the day come at Navan, where they stage eight races, and there’s plenty of interest at both Fontwell and Worcester, prior to Kempton’s floodlit AW card.
13:40 Worcester - Klimt Madrik @ 7/4
14:32 Fontwell - Known Warrior @ 13/8
16:35 Worcester - Delta Blues Belle @ 3/1
19:00 Kempton - Guildmaster @ 11/2
13:40 Worcester - Klimt Madrik @ 7/4
Rider | Kevin Brogan |
Trainer | Toby Lawes |
Owner | Alex & Janet Card |
Age | 6 |
Overall Form | 34/4128- |
The Toby Lawes-trained Klimt Madrik signed off last season with a creditable eighth of 21 behind King Rasko Grey in the Grade 1 Turners Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March and can reach even greater heights as a novice chaser this term.
The six-year-old did nothing but improve after an eyecatching fourth behind Kalkbrenner on his belated rules debut at Ffos Las a year ago (his first outing in 19 months), turning the tables on that rival when winning at Newbury the following month before chasing home the Paul Nicholls-trained No Drama This End in the Grade 1 Challow Novices’ Hurdle over the same C&D at the end of the year.
He’s well worthy of his current official rating of 143 and has plenty of size and scope for further improvement.
Klimt Madrik is the highest-rated horse in the race, upwards of 6lb ahead of his rivals
He improved with every start over hurdles, running to Racing Post Ratings of 121, 125, 139 and 143
He finished in the frame in a pair of Irish points in early 2024
His second in the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle came on today’s forecast good ground
14:32 Fontwell - Known Warrior @ 13/8
Rider | Rex Dingle |
Trainer | Richard J Bandey |
Owner | Knr Racing |
Age | 6 |
Overall Form | P/P44/8486422-5 |
Wind surgery and a switch to fences prompted notable improvement from Richard Bandey’s Known Warrior last season and he looks to have been found a winnable race on his return from a 168-day break.
Unplaced in a bumper and in four hurdle outings, he’s looked a different animal over fences, finishing an encouraging fourth on his chasing debut and recording a pair of second placed finishes, running to Racing Post Ratings of 102, 106 and 108 respectively.
He travelled like the winner for much of the home straight at Southwell in March, but got the last fence wrong and was unable to make up the ground lost, albeit rallying well to be beaten just three-quarters of a length.
He’s just 1lb higher on Wednesday.
Known Warrior has achieved form figures over fences of 4225
He’s run to Racing Post Ratings well in excess of his current official mark on three of his last four starts
Rex Dingle, who has a 17% strike-rate at the track, takes the ride on the gelding for the first time over fences
16:35 Worcester - Delta Blues Belle @ 3/1
Rider | Harry Skelton |
Trainer | Dan Skelton |
Owner | Noel Fehily Racing Syndicate |
Age | 6 |
Overall Form | 331/5059716- |
Harry Skelton was at his cool best aboard Delta Blues Belle when partnering the daughter of Walk In The Park to a smooth success at Huntingdon in February and she likely remains well handicapped off a 10lb higher mark, despite suffering a heavy defeat at Chepstow when last seen.
The mare was reported to have run flat when beaten 29 lengths at the Welsh venue, likely finding the race coming too soon just eight days after her win at Huntingdon.
Freshened up by a 250-day break, she’s got every chance of bouncing back for in-form yard, a drop back to 2m4f unlikely to inconvenience the six-year-old, who showed promise at 2m earlier in her career.
Delta Blues Belle ran to a Racing Post Rating of 103 when winning at Huntingdon, which is 1lb above her current official mark
Harry Skelton, who has a 27% strike-rate at Worcester, will ride the mare for only the third time
Dan Skelton has had 20 winners during the last fortnight
19:00 Kempton - Guildmaster @ 11/2
Rider | Robert Havlin |
Trainer | John & Thady Gosden |
Owner | Godolphin |
Age | 3 |
Overall Form | 1-37874 |
Guildmaster ran to within 1lb of his best when finishing a creditable fourth behind the progressive Infraad in Listed company over 1m6f at Ascot last month and makes plenty of appeal now stepping up to 2m.
The son of Teofilo, who cost 325,000gns as a yearling, created a big impression when winning a maiden over a mile at this track on his debut and his only previous start on the AW in December last year.
He’s been unable to add to that success in five subsequent starts, but has showed steady improvement and was considered good enough to contest the Group 2 Dante Stakes at York in the spring.
He’s shaped like a stayer in his two runs since undergoing a gelding operation, most recently in a first-time visor, which is retained.
Guildmaster won his only previous outing on the AW at this track by three lengths
He’s run to Racing Post Ratings in excess of his current official mark of 98 on three of his last four starts
John and Thady Gosden are in good form at present, highlighted by their double at Ascot on Champions Day at the weekend
The Gosdens have a strike-rate of 21% at Kempton over the last five years, the best of any trainers represented in this race
Marcus Buckland enjoyed a good amount of success in September, his winners including Nothing But Love (13/8), Buckland Belle (15/8), Quicken Away (13/8), Old Is Gold (10/3) and Enchanted Queen (8/11).
