There are five meetings scheduled to take place across Britain and Ireland on Tuesday, weather permitting, an equal split of Flat and jumps in the afternoon, prior to an AW card under the lights in the evening.
Racing Post tipster Marcus Buckland has provided three recommendations for the day’s action, with two selections from Catterick and one from Galway.
13:10 Catterick - By Jove Grace @ 11/8
14:25 Galway - Melchizedek @ 6/1
16:10 Catterick - Kasgani @ 14/1
13:10 Catterick - By Jove Grace @ 11/8
Richard and Peter Fahey’s By Jove Grace went close to upsetting 1/3f The Mean Fiddler (officially rated 79 at the time) in maiden company over 5f at Musselburgh in August and showed there was no fluke about that improved performance when winning readily over the same trip at Hamilton last month.
The daughter of Inns Of Court had been off the bridle from an early stage at Musselburgh and clearly appreciated the stiffer track at Hamilton, coming clear inside the final half-furlong to win by almost four lengths with her rider easing down.
She steps up to 6f for this nursery debut and makes plenty of appeal off an opening mark of 70, with Ethan Tindall taking off a hugely valuable 5lb.
14:25 Galway - Melchizedek @ 6/1
The Mikey Fogarty-trained Melchizedek had finished down the field in his first two starts and was given no chance in a maiden over an extended mile at Thurles last month, sent off as a mammoth 250/1 outsider.
However, the son of Awtaad far outran expectations, keeping on steadily from the rear in the straight under Rory Cleary to finish fifth of the 14 runners and beaten only four-and-a-half lengths by Andrew Slattery’s King Christoph.
He was not given an overly hard ride, so has the potential to do even better, particularly now that he tackles heavy ground for the first time.
He’s by no means thrown in off his opening official mark of 75, but he is going the right way and Sam Coen takes 5lb off his back, taking his racing weight to a more manageable 9st 12lb.
16:10 Catterick - Kasgani @ 14/1
Sea The Stars gelding Kasgani was extremely inconsistent for Dermot Weld last year, as highlighted by Racing Post Ratings ranging from 18 to 80 in his five outings for the legendary trainer.
However, a switch to Declan Carroll looks to have had a positive impact on the four-year-old, who appeared unfortunate not to make a winning start for new connections over 1m2f at Nottingham in the spring, when having travelled strongly, he found himself crowded out for much of the final 2f and unable to get a clear shot at the principals.
He suffered another luckless defeat over the same course and distance next time, and may well have been in need of the outing when running with less encouragement on his return from a break at the beginning of this month.
Kasgani steps up to 1m4f for the first time on Tuesday and Paul Mulrennan is an eye-catching booking.
