There’s more top-class action coming on Sunday in the form of day two of the Dublin Racing Festival.
Racing Post tipster Phill Anderson is on hand to bring you his best bets for the day's action from Leopardstown
12:40 - Brucio @ 20/1
13:10 - Ballyburn @ 5/6
14:10 - Solness @ 8/1
12:40 - Brucio @ 20/1
This is a typically competitive opener to the Sunday of the Dublin Racing Festival but last year’s winner, Brucio, appears to have been overlooked a little in the market once again.
Stuart Crawford’s mare was completely unfancied for this last year before bolting up at a starting price of 20-1 and she is available at the same odds with bet365 paying five places this time around.
She seemed to relish the strong gallop that day and there’s a good chance of the same scenario panning out with a few that like to go forward in this 20-runner field.
It’s fair to say that she has been an in-and-out performer in the interim but there were definite signs of a revival at Doncaster last time out when she was not seen to best effect but stuck to her task well to finish fifth.
She has been dropped another 3lb for that effort and with a promising claimer taking 5lb off, she looks competitively weighted. The mare can outrun her double-figure odds once again back at her preferred distance.
13:10 - Ballyburn @ 5/6
Ballyburn has always given the impression that he’s a stayer in the making and while he has come in for some criticism with regards to his jumping ability over fences, particularly behind Sir Gino at Kempton over Christmas, there is every chance that this marked step up in distance is going to help him.
There’s nothing of Sir Gino’s quality in this line-up and if he does improve for a longer distance, he should be very hard to beat given that he already sets a solid standard compared to what this lot have achieved so far.
14:10 - Solness @ 8/1
There is no doubting Gaelic Warrior’s ability on the whole but he looks like one of the more vulnerable Willie Mullins favourites given his propensity to jump right. There has to be some value elsewhere in the market given that second-favourite Marine Nationale still has a fair bit to prove over fences.
A few of these are capable of landing Grade 1s on their day, such as Captain Guinness and Gentleman De Mee but Solness is the one who appeals most after his success at this venue over Christmas.
Bookmakers appear to have written that off as a fluke but there has to be a good chance he gets his own way out in front once again here and if he does, he makes each-way appeal at 8/1 with bet365, particularly with a jockey who excels on front runners on board in the shape of Danny Mullins.
