Lennox Stakes Odds: Hard to split Kinross and Noble Dynasty

Day one of Glorious Goodwood gets underway on Tuesday, with plenty of top-class racing action to come from the West Sussex venue.

The Goodwood Cup is undoubtedly the feature race but there is plenty of other brilliant action to look forward to, including the preceding contest, the Lennox Stakes.

The Group 2 contest run over seven furlongs has attracted some top talent, with eight elite runners set to battle it for the £102,078 prize.

Lennox Stakes Odds

(Odds will display when market is available)

Kinross

Ralph Beckett’s seven-year-old loves this race, providing the trainer with his sole two victories in the Lennox Stakes when landing the contest in 2021 and 2023.

Kinross was a neck second when runner-up to Sandrine in 2022, between his two wins, highlighting his suitability to this race.

One change for the son of Kingman, though, will be in the saddle. Frankie Dettori has taken the ride for the past two years, but with the Italian retired for British racing, Rossa Ryan will be in the saddle on Tuesday.

However, that is not necessarily a complete negative as Ryan rode Kinross to victory in the 2021 edition of this race.

Noble Dynasty

No horse has ever won the Lennox Stakes three times and it seems likely the biggest threat to Kinross’s hopes of changing that could be Noble Dynasty.

Charlie Appleby’s six-year-old has an impressive 7-13 strike-rate and caught the eye when winning the Group 3 Criterion Stakes at Newmarket in June.

The Lennox Stakes represents a step up in class for the son of Dubawi but he clearly knows how to win and Appleby and William Buick, who will ride Noble Dynasty on Tuesday, combined to win the contest in 2020 with Space Blues.

English Oak

Ed Walker’s charge was impressive when winning the Buckingham Palace stakes by three lengths last month and he certainly seems to be heading in the right direction.

English Oak looks progressive, his yard is in good form and James Doyle is a solid jockey booking. However, he will need more if he is to land this, having finished two lengths behind Noble Dynasty at Newmarket in May.

Audience

John Gosden trained the winner of the inaugural Lennox Stakes, Observatory, but has failed to replicate that feat since.

Audience is his sole hope this year, but he will have to run a blinder to land this top-level contest. His front-running win as a 22/1 shot in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes shows that he has that sort of run in his locker, but he is not the only one in this race who likes to go fast from the start and Rab Havlin will have to get his tactics spot on if Audience is to land this.

Tiber Flow

Tiber Flow enjoyed mixed results over five and six furlongs, but his Group 3 John Of Gaunt Stakes victory at Haydock in June seemed to prove that 7f is his optimum trip.

The Lennox Stakes is a race which has evaded William Haggas thus far, but his charge this year is 3-4 over this distance and could find the race run to his liking.

Chicago Critic

The odds rise pretty dramatically from the first five to the final three runners in this race, but that does not mean the likes of Chicago Critic should be completely discounted.

The son of Night Of Thunder ran well to finish third in the Jersey Stakes at Ascot last month and while that form has not quite worked out, there was enough promise in that effort to suggest he could give a good account of himself in the Lennox.

Art Power

Tim Easterby’s charge has been involved in plenty of big contests in a busy career, but there is a feeling this race will not be to his liking.

Art Power finished 12th of 14 on his only previous effort at this distance and most of his best form has come on soft ground, with the speedy surface and longer trip likely to leave him struggling at Goodwood.

Pogo

Pogo is another runner with plenty of experience, but his losing streak now stands at 12 and his usual front-running style may not be as successful as it can be due to the presence of Audience.

Jockey Kieran Shoemark is in good form, but he will need to provide the race of his life if Pogo is to land the Lennox.
