Jack Callan is a jockey that has given the firm impression he’s going places in his short career so far and he’s still able to claim 3lb in Kempton’s opener on Wednesday when he has his first ride for Richard Spencer. The trainer’s horses have been running well without quite managing to get their head in front in the last week or so, giving the impression the yard is returning to form.

The combination team up with Atmosphere who makes his handicap debut after three unplaced runs in maiden/novice company over six furlongs but he’s certainly shown ability in each of those starts, particularly when fifth of 12 in a maiden at this venue when meeting trouble in running.

He was ultimately well held at Yarmouth subsequently but he did stay on again in the closing stages, suggesting that this step up in trip could be in his favour and both his pedigree and stride data also suggests that could be the case (sire stayed this trip and his dam has seven furlong winners in the family).

With a workable handicap mark of 60, he wouldn’t need to improve a great deal to get involved now handicapping and with Callan’s 3lb claim also in his favour, he could be worth chancing from an each-way perspective.

Marchetti was knocking on the door throughout the second half of last season, unlucky on a couple of occasions not to get her head in front and she shaped with plenty of promise in last month’s return at Chepstow.

This course and distance winner finished runner-up here on three occasions last season, twice from higher marks than what she races off on Wednesday.

The mare needs some luck in running give her hold-up style but the cutaway over this course and distance is certainly a help on that front, and a double figure field size means she’s likely to get a decent pace to aim, particularly with a couple of regular front runners in opposition.

She looks like an each-way play with bet365 offering four places in the race.

21:00 Kempton - Letmebetheboss @ 11/4

It was a major return to form from Letmebetheboss at Southwell last time out and there are a few reasons to think he’s capable of going back-to-back at Kempton on Wednesday night.

That was his second win since a wind operation just short of a year ago and his only two below-par runs since that procedure came in an end-of-season soft ground Nottingham handicap and on this season’s reappearance over an insufficient 1m4f when entitled to need the run.

A lot of staying races on the all-weather are not run at much of a tempo so Letmebetheboss’ prominent racing style is a major plus with only one other prominent racer in the field and he quickened clear in the style of a horse with plenty more to give when winning last month.

He’s also shaped like this new trip could be a potential source of improvement on a few occasions and if he does manage to progress, he’s capable of defying a 6lb rise in the weights.
