Haydock Horse Racing Tips for Saturday

It’s one of Haydock’s biggest days on Saturday as the Sprint Cup takes centre stage on what promises to be a fantastic afternoon of Flat racing.

13:15 Haydock – Prague @ 8/1

The opening Superior Mile (13:15) doesn’t look like a strong race for a Group 3 and it’s worth taking a chance on the lightly raced four-year-old Prague.

The son of Galileo was impressive when making a winning debut at Sandown in June and took a big step forward when fourth in the Gala Stakes back at that track next time. He was beaten only three-and-a-half lengths by horses rated in the high 100s, which was a good effort on just his second start.

Prague again came up against higher-rated rivals at Goodwood last time and wasn’t disgraced. He finished only two-and-a-quarter lengths behind in fifth in that 1m1f contest and showed plenty of pace.

There was enough encouragement to be taken from that run to think that the drop back to a mile here might suit Prague and he is by far the most unexposed runner in the line up after just three outings.

Up-and-coming trainer Dylan Cunha adds a tonguestrap for the first time and Prague could surprise.

13:50 Haydock– Master Builder @ 9/4

The 1m6f handicap (13:50) comes up next and the one to be on here is Master Builder, who is lightly raced after just four starts and produced a career best when third in the Melrose at York last time.

Master Builder was having his first start beyond 1m4f on that occasion and didn’t enjoy the clearest of runs. However, he left everyone in no doubt that he could stay the trip by doing all of his best work late to finish only two-and-a-half lengths behind the winner Tabletalk.

The selection has gone up 3lb in the weights, but is open to plenty of further improvement at this distance and William Buick is a positive jockey booking taking over from Silvestre de Sousa.

Buick has eight winners from 43 rides for Master Builder’s trainer David Menuisier and has an outstanding chance of improving on that 19 percent strike rate here.

15:35 Haydock – Kind Of Blue @ 16/1

The big one is the Sprint Cup (15:35) and three-year-olds have a good recent record in the race. The market has two of the Classic generation at the top in the shape of Elite Status and Inisherin, but the better value bet might be another three-year-old in Kind Of Blue.

The James Fanshawe-trained colt is from the family of the stable’s top sprinters Deacon Blues and The Tin Man, and both of those improved significantly with racing. That therefore bodes well for Kind Of Blue, who has already shown loads of ability after five starts and is clearly bred to do even better.

Kind Of Blue made his debut only in April and won his first two starts before recording eyecatching efforts behind Inisherin at Royal Ascot and Elite Status at Newbury. The selection did all of his best work in the closing stages on those occasions and is open to enough progress to beat both of those rivals this time.

He will need to improve like his pedigree suggests because he took a backward step when behind Givemethebeatboys at the Curragh last time, but he travelled like the best horse in that race and was run out of it only late on. He is well capable of reversing those places if he is delivered later this time.

The Tin Man won this in 2018 for the Fanshawe team and Kind Of Blue can give the family another victory in it.
