13:50 – French Duke @ 5/1

The King George V at Royal Ascot is often the key to this race and FRENCH DUKE, sixth at Ascot, holds strong claims this year.

Over 1m4f at Ascot, a wide draw can often be an advantage as those drawn up the inside can get in each other's way. French Duke had the opposite problem from stall 12. He could not tuck in, got involved in some early scrimmaging and as a result William Buick had to take him wide.

Despite all of that, and racing freely, French Duke came there with a powerful run early in the straight. He never quite got to the front, but he certainly shaped a lot better than his final position in a strong race.

He gets to run in this race off the same mark. We know he is capable of doing some damage off 88. He also wears a hood, a wise move that might help to calm him down in the early stages. With a clearer run this time, he can break his maiden.

15:35 – Henry Longfellow @ 6/4

Even before Rosallion was pulled out of the Sussex Stakes, the chances of Henry Longfellow turning him over had been a little underplayed. With the ante-post favourite out, Henry Longfellow's claims become highly compelling.

His reappearance defeat in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains is the sole black mark on Henry Longfellow's career. He still put it behind him quickly, as he was only beaten a neck by Rosallion at Ascot when that horse had a lot more in his favour. With his path now clear, Henry Longfellow can land a first Group 1 in open-age company.

For a time last season, it was not clear whether Aidan O'Brien's best two-year-old was Henry Longfellow or City Of Troy. The Dewhurst seemed to settle that, but Henry Longfellow's unbeaten juvenile season still included a Group 1 win by five lengths in the National Stakes.

17:20 – Billyjoh @ 6/1

In a similar vein, BILLYJOH is just finding his ideal conditions and it is reckoned that 7f at Goodwood will be pretty close to his sweet spot.

This horse has been busy since his debut little over a year ago and he had a fruitful winter on the all-weather. He has kept up the improvement since switching to turf, with the step up to 7f drawing a bit more from him at Royal Ascot.

He was ridden with more confidence in his stamina in the International back at Ascot last week and it backfired. He was second or third entering the final furlong, but faded into tenth. Goodwood is a less exacting test of stamina and Billyjoh should see this race out well. If he does he could take some stopping.
