Goodwood Horse Racing Tips for Sunday

There are four flat meetings across Britain and Ireland on Sunday with Goodwood the highlight, and the Racing Post's Gary Savage offers his latest horse racing betting tips for Sunday's action.

Connections will have been glad to see the rain arrive and it can help Gary and Josh Moore's four-year-old continue his quietly progressive ways.

His steady improvement has coincided with soft conditions with his last seven runs coming on soft or heavy going.

This has seen him register his first two wins, with the latest of them in June at Yarmouth, where he produced his best RPR yet in a cosy win.

Next time he was sent off as favourite for a Class 2 at Sandown in July, where he ran with the choke out before failing to finish off his race up the stiff finish.

He still ran as though he was capable of winning off this mark and with the step back to Class 3 and the return to this sharper course sure to suit, he can resume winning ways.

3.00 Goodwood - Tiriac @ 13/2

Similar comments apply to this four-year-old whose improvement has come when the ground has had genuine give in it, although he has continued to run well on faster ground.

He followed up an easy heavy ground win at Windsor in May (he's 2-3 on heavy ground), with a victory over a big field at York on good to soft.

He was narrowly beaten (unlucky in running) in another York cavalry charge on good to soft before another decent run on good ground at Haydock.

His least impressive run this year was last time, but he hardly blotted his copybook when away from the favoured rail he was beaten four lengths by the ultra-progressive Jordan Electrics.

He was only just beaten on his one course run last September, and back on a softer surface today he can enhance trainer Jack Channon's impressive 29% record with older horses at the course.

3.35 Goodwood - Rhoscolyn @ 14/1

David O'Meara's six-year-old is easily forgiven his last three runs when taking into account his superb record at Goodwood, especially on ground with plenty of give.

He has four wins, a second and two thirds from 10 starts at the course, including this race last year, which improves to four wins from five starts on soft or heavy ground.

Although he has only been dropped 2lb for his last three efforts on ground quicker than he would like, and at further than today's ideal trip of 7f, he is only 2lb above his mark when comfortably accounting for a big field at Epsom on Oaks day.

Although not yet a winner from a rating this high, he has run to RPRs in three figures plenty of times, including when beaten a short neck in this race off a rating of 101 in 2022 and when second the 2021 Golden Mile off 104.

His win at Epsom was one of his best ever runs on ratings and everything is in place for another strong Goodwood run.
