4.50 Galway – Don’tstopthemusic @ 9/4

There are plenty of nice prospects with a bright future in Galway’s opener on Wednesday evening including a trio of contenders from Closutton headlined by last year’s Galway festival winner, My Great Mate.

He gets the vote of stable jockey Paul Townend after a narrow defeat in a maiden hurdle at Punchestown last month.

However, the progressive DON'TSTOPTHEMUSIC left the impression that he could be a future star when winning a bumper at the Punchestown festival and his trainer Martin Brassil is a master at placing his horses, getting them to progress steadily from run to run in the early part of their careers.

That’s been the case for Don’tstopthemusic who looked promising in an above average maiden at Leopardstown in December 2022 before going close in a bumper at this meeting last year, a piece of form that has been boosted multiple times over the last 12 months.

However, he took his form to a new level in a Punchestown bumper at their end of season festival and that’s another piece of form that is working out nicely with a couple of those down the field landing maiden hurdles since.

With another step forward likely with another step up in trip here, he might represent a bit of value against the likely favourite from Willie Mullins’ yard.

5.25 Galway – Paggane @ 3/1

Another horse firmly on the up is PAGGANE who makes his handicap debut in race two.

The son of Muhaarar looked highly promising over the winter before getting off the mark in a maiden hurdle at Punchestown in February and he bounced back from a couple of lesser efforts at Pattern level to win a novice hurdle at Kilbeggan last month.

He’s less exposed than most of his rivals in this contest and having proved himself on quicker ground last time out, he looks with chancing again with a dry forecast.

7.10 Galway – Zanahiyr @ 9/1

This year’s Galway Plate has a typically open look to it but there are a few reasons to think ZANAHIYR can run well.

He’s been shaping like he would relish a step up to this sort of trip through his chase career so far and he’s potentially very well treated from a mark of 145, given that he’s rated 10lb higher over timber.

A return to quicker ground could also suit, with two of his best hurdle performances coming with good in the going description and perhaps most notably, he gets the vote of Jack Kennedy from the seven Elliott runners.

Given that the yard have a great strike-rate in this contest, having won four of the last eight renewals of this race, he looks worth supporting at double figure odds.
